The man suspected of killing three police officers in Baton Rouge, La. on Sunday has been identified as Gavin Eugene Long of Kansas City, Mo. He was gunned down by police on the day of the shooting, which took place on his 29th birthday. Here's what we know about the suspect so far.
Military Background
According to the New York Times, Long had spent six months in Iraq while serving in the Marines for five years. He had reportedly enlisted in 2005 and eventually became a sergeant in 2008.CBS News cited an unnamed military source who said Long received an honorable discharge in 2010.
Online Presence
Long also went by Cosmo Setepenra, a name he used on several social media accounts as well as his personal website ConvosWithCosmo. There, he referred to himself as a “Freedom Strategist, Mental Game Coach, Nutritionist, Author, and Spiritual Advisor.”
Just days after the Dallas police shooting took place, Long posted a video on his YouTube account claiming he was in the city for his book tour. He also sent out a series of tweets responding to the Dallas shooting as well as the police killings of black men.
His final tweet was posted on July 16:

Education
On his website as well as his Linkedin account, Long said he attended Clark Atlanta University between 2012 and 2013 after earning an associate’s degree in General Studies at Central Texas College.
Family
At the moment, very little information about Long's family has been revealed. But according to Missouri State documents, he was married to a woman named Aireyona Osha Long, whom he divorced in May of 2011. The two did not have any children.
