People Shutting down #Heterosexualprideday on Twitter Will Restore Your Faith in Humanity

This weekend was Pride, with LGBT communities celebrating around the world. It was especially poignant and important this year, as it came not long after the tragic events in Orlando. There were wonderful scenes in cities like New York and London, but of course there’s always someone on social media, who’ll try and ruin it, as some trolls started asking when #heterosexualprideday was.

Like people who start saying ‘All lives matter’ when ‘Black Lives Matter’ comes up, or those guys who pipe up with “When’s International Men’s Day?” or International Women’s Day, they are missing the point. LGBT people have the fear of harassment and abuse every day o their lives  just because of who they love. Straight people don’t face that.

But the good news if that if you click on the trending #heterosexualprideday topic, instead of facing a barrage of entitled trolls, you’ll actually find that it’s full of people — both gay and straight — schooling people who’d actually believe in such a hashtag.

#HeterosexualPrideDay because every straight child worries about being rejected by family and friends for being heterosexual
