Narcissists Rejoice: Twitter Will Now Let You Retweet Yourself

Twitter is making some pretty big changes, such as letting you retweet yourself.

At the hands of its recently reinstated CEO Jack Dorsey, Twitter has been teasing and slowly unveiling a series of potentially game-changing updates over the past few months. The latest batch of overhauls, formally announced Tuesday, confirms previous reports of a less strict 140-character limit while also introducing some exciting (and maybe kinda troubling?) makeovers.

"One of the biggest priorities for this year is to refine our product and make it simpler," Dorsey promised in a press release. "We're focused on making Twitter a whole lot easier and faster. This is what Twitter is great at—what's happening now, live conversation and the simplicity that we started the service with." To keep the innovations rolling, Twitter has confirmed that @names, photos, videos, and other media will no longer count toward the final character tally.

The necessity of typing out a pesky "." in front of an @ reply will also be a thing of the past, as new tweets beginning with a username will soon start reaching all your followers anyway. However, as any prolific tweeter can attest, the biggest unveiling in Twitter's announcement is this meta AF development:

We'll be enabling the Retweet button on your own Tweets, so you can easily Retweet or Quote Tweet yourself when you want to share a new reflection or feel like a really good one went unnoticed.

This changes everything. Remember all those bombass tweets you fired off at 4 a.m. only to garner an approximate engagement rate of 0.00 percent? Just retweet that shit yourself! If that doesn't work, just wait a few hours and retweet (your own tweet) again. With any luck, you'll eventually stumble into the glorious rabbit hole of narcissism before realizing you're caught in an endless loop of retweets that may very well have no end in sight. Isn't self-love fun?

"We're not giving up on the idea of Twitter being in the moment," Dorsey said of Twitter's most recent update. "That concept of brevity, speed and live conversation—being able to think of something and put it out to the world instantly—that's what's most important." True shit. But being able to retweet myself is probably, like, way more important than all of that other stuff.
