WA Driver Charged For Choosing To Safely Buckle Up His Beers Instead Of Kids

The already-suspended driver had the children lying in the laps of adults and in the footwells of the car.

Police in Broome have caught one man for allegedly driving with cartons of beer buckled into seatbelts, while children were left completely unrestrained in the car, ABC News reports.

The 27-year-old man, whose license was already suspended, left the children–including a baby less than a year old–unrestrained while driving the Great Northern Highway on Wednesday. The children were found by police lying and sitting on the laps of adults, as well as in the foot wells of the car.

Kimberley District Superintendent Allan Adam said this kind of occurrence is surprisingly common in the area.

"This is the third traffic action we've had at that location with significant amounts of alcohol being conveyed along that route," he said. The man has since been charged with no authority to drive and failure to restrain a child.
