Lawyer: Paris Attacks Suspect Is a "Moron" Influenced by 'Grand Theft Auto'

He also said he has the "brains of an empty ashtray."

The devastating terrorist attacks in Paris last November in which 130 people were killed left more questions than answers in its aftermath. Authorities began to answer some of those questions when they arrested Paris attacks suspect Salah Abdeslam last month after a shootout in Brussels days before the Brussels bombings that killed 32 people. Abdeslam, who the New York Postreports was transferred from Belgium to France on Wednesday, has been described by his lawyer as nothing but a "moron" who thought he was living in the Grand Theft Auto video game IRL.

According to the NYP, Abdeslam's Belgian lawyer Sven Mary is the one who called Abdeslam, a 26-year-old Frenchman of Moroccan origin, a "moron" among other attacks at his intelligence.

Mary reportedly told Liberation, says the NYP, "He is the perfect example of the GTA generation who thinks he lives in a video game." The NYP also reports Mary described Abdeslam as a "little moron from Molenbeek."

However, that "little moron" told authorities he planned the suicide bombings in Paris in which he was also supposed to be a suicide bomber but backed out reports the NYP. Abdeslam also reportedly rented cars to take the Paris attackers to Paris before he escaped to Belgium again where he was eventually captured.

But still Mary alleges that Abdeslam is from: "a world of petty criminals—more of the follower than a leader, with the brains of an empty ashtray."

The NYPreports Abdeslam’s other lawyer Frank Berton told iTele TV that Abdeslam wants to talk about his involvement in the Paris attacks as well as as explain his "route to radicalization" said Berton. "That means be judged for facts and acts that he committed but not for what he did not commit simply because he is the only survivor of the attacks."

Besides facing charges for the Paris attacks Abdeslam has been charged for the shootout with law enforcement in Belgium reports the NYP.
