If you've got a case of the Mondays, might as well accompany your emo mood with depressing facts. That way, you've got interesting tidbits of conversation and justification for your sourpuss.

Here are six Reddit downers that we fact-checked:

1. Koala bears can transmit Chlamydia. The BBC reported that in some parts of Australia, Chlamydia infection rates among koalas are as high as 90 percent.

2. By 2050, the ocean will have more plastic waste than fish when measured by weight. Discovery said this estimation is largely impacted by plastic packaging products, which typically end up in the ocean or landfills after one use.

3. Former U.S. President John F. Kennedy's sister Rosemary was lobotomized. According to the JFK Library, Rosemary was born with "intellectual disabilities" and became "irritable and difficult." She was lobotomized at 23 to treat "violent mood swings," but the procedure left her "permanently incapacitated and unable to care for herself." 

4. "Ming" the clam was the world's oldest-recorded animal—until researchers killed it. Ming was discovered in 2006 and died when scientists froze 200 clams for research, National Geographic reported. They later discovered Ming's record-breaking age of 507.

5. According to the Natural Resources Defense Council, 40 percent of food in the U.S. goes to waste, which means approximately $165 billion worth of food gets thrown out every year.

6. According to a 2009 University of Virginia study, our brains start to deteriorate at around 27 years old. Our brains are strongest at 22, but start to decline soon after.
