The two exchange a few inaudible sentences at the start of the video, and then the man says, "You're saying that I can't have a hairstyle because of your culture? Why?"

The woman responds, "Because it's my culture. Do you know what locs mean?"

He tries to walk away a few times, claiming that he feels disrespected, while the woman appears to try to grab him. He tells her to stop touching him, and when she notices the incident is being filmed, she asks the bystander why they're recording.

"For everyone's safety," the off-screen voice responds. The woman then appears to grab the camera.

The title of the video, "SFSU 2016 - Campus employee assaults white student for 'cultural appropriation,'" suggests that the woman is a San Francisco State University employee, and that the events in the video constitute assault. The university denies both of these claims.

SFSU released the following statement regarding the video on Tuesday morning:

We are aware of the video made of an incident which occurred on campus yesterday afternoon. University police were called to the scene of the incident when it occurred. The two individuals involved in the incident are not San Francisco State University employees. Further, no criminal charges have been pressed at this time to the University’s knowledge.
