Last weekend cops shot and killed a couple in their vehicle while they were on a date in Inglewood, California. Now it has been reported that the man and woman were unconscious when the police first showed up to the scene.
The Inglewood police were called to the spot because they had reason to believe the vehicle was suspicious. Upon arriving they saw that the two occupants of the car, Kisha Michael and Marquintan Sandlin, were both unconscious. After seeing this strange behavior, the cops didn't exactly know what to do.
Inglewood Mayor James Butts told NBC 4 that "the officers retreated, isolated the vehicle, and spent about 45 minutes attempting to rouse the occupants and to deescalate the situation."
His report is a divergence from the police department's original. The police, who apparently saw a gun with the woman, told the couple to get out of the vehicle. When they failed to do so, the cops opened fire.
Still, details remain hazy. In a police radio transmission a cop can be heard saying that he thinks the woman has a gun in her right hand, but there's no indication if the couple was an actual threat, why the police decided to open fire, and, perhaps most strangely, if they were conscious in the first place.
