U.S. President Barack Obama said he doesn't believe Donald Trump is fit for the White House, and the billionaire clapped back.

Speaking at a press conference in California on Tuesday, Obama said, "I continue to believe Mr. Trump will not be president, and the reason is because I have a lot of faith in the American people, and I think they recognize that being president is a serious job," according to USA Today.

Obama went on to burn the former reality star for his past endeavors, pointing out that he isn't groomed for the kind of leadership the presidency requires.

"It's not hosting a talk show, or a reality show," Obama said. "It's not promotion, it's not marketing—it's hard, and a lot of people count on us getting it right."

Speaking about the specifics of his job, Obama added, "Whoever is standing where I'm standing now has the nuclear codes with them, and can order 21-year-olds into a firefight, and has to make sure that the banking system doesn't collapse. The American people are pretty sensible, and I think they'll make a sensible choice in the end."

Admitting that Trump gained popularity in New Hampshire, winning the state's primary with 35 percent, Obama said he believed that victory was indicative of the American public's frustration.

"Yeah, during primaries people vent," he said. "And they express themselves, and it seems like entertainment, and oftentimes it's reported just like entertainment. But as you get closer, reality has a way of intruding."

In response, Trump called Obama the "worst president in U.S history" on Wednesday morning:

Interesting how President Obama so haltingly said I "would never be president" - This from perhaps the worst president in U.S. history!

Secretary of State John Kerry also had some choice words about Trump. Appearing on Tuesday's Jimmy Kimmel Live, he said world leaders were already frustrated with the billionaire—and he's not even president yet: “I hear about it everywhere.”

At least Trump has promised never to use foul language again. We'll see how long that lasts.
