Katherine Heigl Says She'll Never Be America's Sweetheart

Katherine Heigl's latest film, "New Year's Eve," is in theaters this Friday (December 9th).

The actress covers the latest issue of Elle magazine, and says that despite what people expect of her, she'll never be an "America's Sweetheart" type of star.

"I’ve never really been America’s sweetheart, but for a minute I think that’s what they wanted me to be," she says. "And I had ‘em for a second thinking maybe I was. And then I opened my mouth, and it was very clear I wasn’t. There’s so much of my mother’s caustic, sarcastic, irreverent take on things. But I also love and embrace it."

Heigl has had something of a sketchy rep over the past few years. Whether it was voicing her thoughts about working on "Knocked Up" or"Grey's Anatomy," the perception of her is that she's a bit cantankerous. It seems she's aware of it now.
