After a very public struggle with bulimia and bipolar disorder, former Disney star Demi Lovato is not happy about what she perceived to be an eating disorder joke on the network's show, Shake It Up. The offending line is dialogue occurs when one of the characters says, "I could just eat you up. Well, if I ate."
After the episode aired, Lovato took to Twitter to express her disappointment. "I find it really funny how a company can lose one of their actress' from the pressures of an EATING DISORDER and yet still make joke about that very disease..... #nice" was just one of the infuriated comments from her rant spanning across several tweets.
Disney's PR account responded almost immediately, "We hear you & are pulling both episodes as quickly as possible & reevaluating them ... It’s NEVER our intention to make light of eating disorders!" Was Demi making a noise for attention or making a difference? Either way, she got what she wanted.
