Rooney Mara, who covers the latest issue of Vogue, will star as Lisbeth Salander in "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" (due in theaters December 21st), but according to director David Fincher, she had a whole slew of actresses come in and audition for the role.
"Scarlett Johansson was great. It was a great audition, I'm telling you," Fincher tells Vogue. "But the thing with Scarlett is, you can't wait for her to take her clothes off."
In the end, Fincher fought for Mara.
"I had said so often, '[Mara] is the one I want'," he recalls. "They said, 'No. You are being obstinate. Move on'. And I said, 'Nope'. Part of me wanted that last puppy that nobody else did. I didn't want the consensus. I wanted the person that made everybody go, 'Really?' I needed that."
See? It pays to be the underdog every once in a while.
