Zoe Saldana Says She Was A Feminine Tomboy Growing Up

In Zoe Saldana's latest film, "Colombiana"— due in theaters August 26th— she plays an assassin looking to avenge the death of her parents.

In the September issue of GQ, besides striking a few hot poses, she says that growing up she was a "feminine tomboy." So maybe all these sexy but badass sci-fi/action roles she plays aren't all that off base.

“I had my plastic swords, my ninja stars, but I still wore lipstick,” she says.

Or, maybe it just has to do with her looking to defy Hollywood expectations.

“It gets pretty boring when all you are is the support system for a male character,” she added. “I want to be in the small percentage of women who don’t settle for conventional roles.”
