It's been rumored for a few weeks that Pussycat Dolls frontwoman Nicole Scherzinger would be replacing UK-bred pop singer Cheryl Cole as a judge on the US version of "X-Factor."
Today, the rumors were confirmed.
An official statement from Fox, FremantleMedia and Syco TV reads:
“Nicole Scherzinger will be replacing Cheryl Cole on the judging panel of The X Factor. Nicole will join Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid and Paula Abdul on their search across America to find the next global superstar or group to win the life-changing $5 million dollar recording deal. Nicole has previously joined Simon Cowell as a guest judge on The X Factor for the UK version of the show in 2010. Steve Jones will act as sole host of The X Factor.”
As for why Cole got the boot, some information has tricked out. According to E!, Cole and Paula Abdul weren't seeing eye to eye during the filming of "X-Factor" auditions. The two had been complaining to the show's producers about one another, and with Abdul being the comparatively bigger star, she was due to get more shine on the show regardless.
So between their bickering and Cole's British accent, it was best to just part ways with her. Her contract says she'll get her 1.5 million dollar salary regardless. So hey, all is not lost!
