Abortion rates in New York City were lower than ever in 2012, health officials say.
According to the Health Department's Vital Statistics report from 2012, abortions were down 8.6 percent from the previous year, 19 percent since 2003 and 22 percent since 2000. Furthermore, teen pregnancies fell to 23.6 percent per 1,000 in 2012, an 8.5 percent decline over 2011.
In addition, the report claims that these numbers are the result of the popularity of IUDs as a birth control method. Furthermore, the numbers reflect a national trend of abortion rates declining in recent years.
Still, as the New York Post mentions, the Bronx and Brooklyn have the city's highest abortion rates at 47 and 32 percent, respectively.
