Census Bureau information released yesterday revealed that states in the Southern and Western regions of the United States are experiencing the largest population growth

Between 2012 and 2013, the South added 1.1 million residents, while the West added nearly 728,000. Those numbers crush the Midwest and Northeast, which added 226,000 and 171,000 people respectively. Texas welcomed 387,000 new people, more than any other state. Though only 22,000 people relocated to North Dakota, their population grew by 3.1 percent, which was still the highest in the U.S.

The biggest revelation comes out of New York. Last week, it was reported that Florida was expected to pass New York in terms of population, but New York narrowly retained its lead, edging Florida by less than 100,000 people. However, Florida's population grew by 1.2 percent over the past year, meaning it should surge past New York in 2014 as anticipated.
