A rabbi is facing a lawsuit after an infant's penis had to be surgically reattached following a failed circumcision.

According to Rabbi Mordecai Rosenberg, he was performing the circumcision at the Tree of Life Synagogue in in Pittsburgh's Squirrel Hill neighborhood back in April when the child's penis was cut off. The boy was rushed to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center’s Children's Hospital where he underwent emergency reconstructive surgery, as well as leech therapy.

The lawsuit alleges that Rosenberg, who has reportedly been certified by the American Board of Ritual Circumcision, acted with "with a total disregard" for the boy's safety, ultimately resulting in a "catastrophic and life-changing injury." In the meantime, Rosenberg—who called the incident "tragic"—is still performing brises in the area.
