Having piranha-like fish bite off your toes could easily put a damper on Christmas

A group of swimmers was attacked by a school of flesh-hungry fish on Argentina's Parana River on Christmas Day, leaving some without portions of their fingers and toes. According to the Associated Press, 70 swimmers were seeking refuge from the extreme heat; they instead ran right into one of mother nature's other more unforgiving threats. Federico Cornier, director of lifeguards, said palometas—a "big, voracious" species of piranha—were responsible for the attack.

The true tragedy is that despite the fact that children lost entire fingers and toes, it was so hot outside that people were right back in the water 30 minutes after city beaches were closed. That ain't the way to live.
