According to one study, the myth of the stupid American isn't a myth. The results of a study developed by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development were released today, revealing that Americans scored well below average on tests of reading, math and problem-solving using technology. A total of 166,000 people between the ages of 16 and 65 in over 20 countries were tested and the findings were not favorable for America.

The U.S. lagged behind other countries such as Finland, Australia, Canada and Japan in each category. What's worse is that they were tested on seemingly simple tasks like sorting emails, comparing food expiration dates and calculating change. Come on, America.

Furthermore, this illustrated the wide gap between high and low-skilled workers is in the U.S. and the challenges many face to get ahead in life when their parents haven't. For example, the study showed that respondents with college-educated parents performed better on tests than their counterparts whose parents didn't finish high school.
