It's been nearly a week since the federal government shutdown ended, but D.C. is still reeling from the resulting financial loss. It's not the type of situation that you can just put behind you.

According to the Washington City Paper, the D.C. area lost an astonishing $400 million in economic activity during every week of the government shutdown. Furthermore, D.C. lost another $6 million in potential tax revenue during the interruption. Mayor Vincent Gray calls this a "significant impact for the city that [D.C.] will never see again."

Furthermore, Gray will not ask the government to pay D.C. back for the $50,000 to $100,000 it cost to tidy up garbage in federal parks.
