D.C. Officials Consider Making People Wait 24 Hours for Tattoos or Piercings

The District of Columbia wants to end tattoo remorse, so it's considering a measure that would force anyone who wants a tattoo or piercing to wait at least 24 hours. The Department of Health has created a proposal that would force tattoo and piercing seekers to wait 24 hours after their request for the work to be done. The DOH is unapologetic about it; they've come right out and said that this move is intended to "stop impulse tattoos."

This may be short-sighted, because everyone who gets a tattoo or a piercing doesn't do so on pure impulse. Soon enough, D.C. could have the strictest tattoo-related rules, as the proposed measure would also ban anyone under the age of 18 from getting tattoos or piercings.

Nothing is ever simple.
