There's a battle for the Thirst Crown going on in New York City right now between the Cronut Faithful and Team iPhone. To actually quantify this hypebeast war and put it in perspective, Quartz used "first-hand observations" and images posted on Twitter to compare the line at Dominique Ansel Bakery to the line at the SoHo Apple store at 9 a.m. this morning. Thus, we have the first competition between the cronut and the iPhone.
Cronuts, all of their desert hype considered, are one of the most trendy things in the city right now, but they have nothing on the iPhone. That's probably why the line at the Apple Store is about twice as long. That, and the fact that the iPhone 5S and 5C were recently released. The cronut is the talented upstart, while the iPhone is the seasoned, decorated vet.
It's not a contest yet.
