The devastating floods that ripped through Colorado last week continue to devastate the area. As of early this morning, the number of homes destroyed had risen to 1,600 and the death toll had risen to eight. Furthermore, the flood zone had swallowed 17 counties, swelling to a size comparable to Delaware

State emergency officials say that close to 12,000 people have been evacuated since last week, and the majority of them have been left stranded due to communication lines, bridges and roads being washed out. Boulder County emergency spokeswoman Liz Donaghey told Reuters that over 1,500 county residents were evacuated to emergency shelters; the remainder were picked up by military vehicles.

More than 600 people remain unaccounted for.
