The cronut has another fan: New York City Comptroller candidate Scott Stringer. During Monday night's Gothamist co-sponsored comptroller debate, both Stringer and fellow candidate Eliot Spitzer were asked if they had ever tried a cronut. Both candidates said no, and this revelation set off a chain reaction on Twitter. Gothamist's editorial brass enaged in an entertaining exchange with Stringer's press secretary, friend to Lenha Dunham, and occasional actress Audrey Gelman. Hell, Dominique Ansel himself even got involved. What followed was an exhibition of social media's power:
Neither Stringer or Spitzer has had a cronut—I swear @Gothamist didn't suggest that question— Jen Chung (@jenchung) August 12, 2013
Ansel hooked Stringer up with a cronut, which he called "the most delicious thing he's ever eaten." Hyperbole at its finest, but hey, he's out to make friends. In the meantime, the cronut gets yet another stamp and its reputation grows. Ansel should be very satisfied.
