If you're an animal lover, this will be a painful read. Last week, a man says he was walking in a gated Colorado Springs, CO community when a mountain lion hopped out of the bushes, snatched his dachshund and ate it. Parks and Wildlife officials set up a trap for the lion, caught it and ultimately euthanized it.
According to neighbors, cougar attacks are pretty routine. “We know there are mountain lions in the area, there have been other attacks several years ago,” said one resident. “Our backyard neighbor, a mountain lion climbed a tree and jumped onto her deck and took her dog.”
Wildlife officials say the last thing you should do if you encounter a mountain lion is run away. Instead, you should back away slowly and try to make yourself look as big as possible. Oh, and pray.
