Although it’s a little over three years old, the Cooper Union academic building at 41 Cooper Square is still the best example of recent innovation and technological sophistication in New York City. The first LEED Silver institutional building, it contains numerous elements that enhance its environmental performance including smart day-lighting monitoring that controls the interior light levels, a green roof to filter and collect storm water, and elevators that skip certain floors to minimize frequent stopping. Incidentally this also promotes more walking among visitors.
