Submerged streets, tunnels gushing with flowing water, and high octane winds whipping the facades from apartment buildings: Hurricane Sandy has devastated New York City in an unprecedented fashion.
The same storm that brought mass transit to a halt and left more than 750,000 residents in darkness has also swallowed several neighborhoods in Manhattan and many of the outer boroughs in a deluge of flooding. The East River has overflowed and turned the downtown streets into rivers, Coney Island's waves surged onto the boardwalk, and the Gowanus Canal flooded Red Hook, forcing evacuation.
New York City is underwater.
