Earlier this year, Republican Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert drafted a bill that would exclude 535 people from D.C.’s bar on concealed guns. Why? So legislators can blast would be criminals and constituents, if need be. That idea didn’t go over to well, but it sure as hell didn’t deter Gohmert.
Today, the House Judiciary Committee will consider legislation that would permit residents of states with concealed carry laws to carry concealed guns in other states with similar laws. Furthermore, this would create an exception in D.C., as it would grant someone from another state permission to carry their weapon in the city, even though it’s against local gun regulations.
Considering the presence of the diplomatic community and all elected federal government officials, not to mention the fact that D.C. is a target for terrorism, we understand why the District might not want to lighten up on gun regulation. Call us crazy if you want.
