Yesterday, the dedication to the Martin Luther King, Jr. memorial finally took place on the National Mall in Washington D.C. The dedication was originally supposed to take place at the end of August, but Hurricane Irene came along and ruined that weekend for a lot of people. Regardless, President Obama and his family were joined by the likes of Stevie Wonder, Jesse Jackson Jr., Ledisi, and about 10,000 others in celebration of Dr. King’s efforts.

President Obama delivered a moving speech, saying that Dr. King would “call on us to assume the best in each other rather than the worst, and challenge one another in ways that ultimately heal rather than wound.” Furthermore, he noted that many of us could still stand to learn a great deal from Dr. King’s teachings.
