Gone But Not Forgotten: Graffiti Legend DREAM Celebrated Tomorrow with "Dream Day" in Oakland

Tomorrow, February 19, marks the 11th anniversary of the tragic murder of Mike "DREAM" Francisco. DREAM was a true titan, both in the game of art and the game of life, and he's left a lasting legacy in Oakland's graf and hip-hop scenes. To pay tribute, The Town's best DJs and MCs have gathered to perform on Dream Day 11 at The Oakland Metro Theater. In the early part of the evening, attendees can view a gallery of street art from DREAM's TDK Crew and others, and then DJ Qbert, Bored Stiff, Boots Riley of the Coup, Zion I, Hobo Junction, Rock Force Crew, Hopie Spitshard, Dub Esquire, and other special guests will hit the stage. The Bay has always kept it idiosyncratic, and this event will honor that uniqueness by celebrating one of the area's fallen heroes.

All proceeds will benefit the Dream Book Fund and the Dream Legacy Fund for his son, Akil, 11, who recently lost his mother to breast cancer. To contribute to the Funds, you can send checks to:

Thank you TDK and all extended family for putting together another epic memorial and benefit party in honor of Dream. It's always a show of the best of what HipHop can be, and how we do it in the Bay. I know Dream Smiles so Large at these events and feels the Love in the other world. For those who attend it magnifies how good it is to be alive and Expressing through HipHop in it's many forms, peacefully, and I know that's what Dream would want. Thanks Oakland Metro for being a great host space for the event. Already looking forward to the next Dream Day, next year. ~Sundance~
