Cult auteur David Lynch disturbed American audiences in new and fantastic ways with Blue Velvet when it was first released in 1987. With a deranged Dennis Hopper huffing nitrous, severed ears found in fields and a parade of small-town freaks, Lynch really tapped into something with this film. Starring Kyle MacLachlan as a young man who peels back the veneer of his hometown to find a wealth of nastiness lurking below.
