DEVELOPER/PUBLISHER/PLATFORMS: Rocksteady Studios/ Edios Interactive/PC, PS3, XBOX 360

FUN FACT: Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy reprise their roles as the voices of Joker and Batman.

WHY COMPLEX IS CO-SIGNING IT: Let’s be honest, 99% of superhero-based video games suck. After the super noob-friendly Batman Begins game and the awful Superman Returns game, it was looking down hill for DC. But much like the newest Batman film, the Dark Knight is here to save them. To put it in simplest terms, Batman: Akrham Asylum is not only a fanboy’s wet dream but it also holds its ground as one of the best titles of this year.

STORY: Screw Sherlock, the Dark Knight will always be the greatest detective of all time. While most other superhero games stick close to the comics, BAA is original while still paying respect to comic history. The new plot, which focuses on Batman battling everyone he’s locked up in the past, is an interesting and new idea, but it’s the dynamic gameplay that’s most impressive…

GAMEPLAY: Stiff-moving and generic trademark attacks are the hallmark of horrible movie-to-game adaptations (we see you Fantasic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer). Arkham Asylum isn’t flashy, and Batman just kicks ass like any other non-superhuman. Aside from basic button-mashing, the game gives a certain amount of freedom to players. Although there are a lot of options available on how to dispose of enemies, the game’s most difficult setting provides a challenge even for serious gamers. We suggest you start out playing on the normal mode, then work your way up instead of acting like one of those I-start-playing-on-the-hardest-level dickheads.

GRAPHICS: While the movie version of Arkham Asylum was…eh…okay, the graphics of this game do a great service to Gotham’s little slice of hell. Featuring broken furniture, scribbles on the walls, and disgusting housekeeping, BAA provides players that disconcerting “Where the hell am I?” feeling that isn’t seen in games anymore.

DOWNSIDE: The only really bad thing that we can say about BAA is an overdrawn introduction with the Joker being taken inside Arkham. We get it, he’s crazy, he’s going to do something that starts the game, blah, blah, blah. After that though, it’s smooth sailing all the way to the end of the game.

We've got a first look at the downloadable add-on to GTA IV, available via Xbox Live next week.

Downloadable content is the next realm of console gaming, and leave it to Rockstar Games to be an early innovator. While most DLC until now has consisted of cute little mini-games or disposable add-ons, Rockstar has crafted what amounts to a bona fide Grand Theft Auto IV sequel. In The Lost and Damned 'the first of two planned GTA IV downloadable episodes'you control Johnny Klebitz, VP of The Lost biker gang, as he struggles to keep his team’s crime operation afloat. For those that love pushing choppers in regular GTA games, this is a must-download.

The Lost and Damned will be available on Tuesday, February 17 for download from Xbox Live for 1,600 Microsoft points ($19.99). Microsoft is also offering five days of free Xbox Live Gold during the week of the episode’s release. Watch the just-released trailer below…

There's a copy of Microsoft's new action game burning a hole in our pocket. Answer one trivia question and it could be yours!

We’ll be honest: The reviews for Too Human, the Xbox 360 game from Microsoft and Silicon Knights that just dropped, have been pretty middling. The third-person action title, which has been in the making for over a decade and is the first of a planned trilogy, could be the victim of advance hype'too much buzz eventually turned into a buzzkill.

But we played Too Human, and while it may not be an instant classic, it’s still pretty damn fun (check the ill villains!). There are definitely worse ways to shit away the rest of summer. But don’t just take our word for it. Watch the game trailer and learn how to win your own copy below…

The first person to correctly answer the following question will win a copy of Too Human for the Xbox 360:

What are the names of two other games that were created by Too Human developers Silicon Knights?

Email your response to contest@complex.com.

Even while E3 was taking place in L.A. last week, the good folks at Xbox were around to make sure New Yorkers got their exclusive gamer fix too. At an event in the Big Apple, Xbox 360 previewed its fall line of games, including Fallout 3, Rock Band II, and the highly-anticipated Gears Of War 2. With all the hype surrounding GOW2 (due out in November), we focused our attention on getting familiar with the gory third person shooter through a friendly network game over some super-fructose X-Tini cocktails. Watch the trailer and read our first impressions of the game below.

GAMEPLAY: As a part of the elite team called the COG Delta Squad, the basic premise of the game is to defeat the Locusts who return from the game’s first installment, this time to destroy entire cities with one fell swoop. With a plot that simple, we figured we could breeze through it like other fast-paced shooters like Halo 3. We were wrong. Players with itchy trigger fingers are forced to be more strategic with their movements as they battle. But in case you’re on the brink of dying, and your teammate can’t revive you, there’s always the option in multi-player mode to peruse the map with the ghost camera and snitch on the competition by giving away their position.

WEAPONS: Everyone looks forward to the selection of army guns, but Gears Of War 2 is about how you use them. In our inventory we had the standard Lancer Assault Rifle, Shotgun, Boomshot Grenade Launcher, Frag Grenade, and Torque Bow. They’re all guaranteed to make the Locusts get down or lay down, but death by a grenade might be the worst way to go out. You can throw it, or plant it on a nearby wall (then crawl like heck) and watch the bodies fly, but players also have the option of stabbing themselves with it, out of pure desperation. If you’re savvy enough with the Lance Assault Rifle, an active reload technique allows you to let off a burst of bullets when you line up the moving bars in the gun’s display.

ENEMIES: To get the full feel of GOW2, we played in multi-player mode. It was a good excuse for us to blend in with the pros who got us past the first four waves of baddies like the Grenadiers, Drones, and Kryll. There are 50 waves (battles) per map, our team only completed four. Head shots are your best bet, which can add up to an achievement like in the Halo series, or another killer tactic is picking up your half-dead enemies and using them as a shield. Bang bang.

The classic game from the NES days comes to Xbox 360 next week with more blood and gore than the original.

Adapting original Nintendo games on next-gen consoles is a great way to keep the franchise alive. On Tuesday, one of the classics from our days of blowing on cartridges (pause)'Ninja Gaiden 2'drops on Xbox 360.

In a sequel to the O.G. Xbox version, your character Ryu Hayabusa continues down the path of vengeance for his clan while trying to save the world. The plots and gameplay are very straightforward, making it fun to hack up deadly assassins and other-worldly creatures. Now with enhanced melee attacks, auto-healing, and Ryu’s signature teleportation and wall-running moves, the 20+ minute intervals spent defeating bosses aren’t so bad, even for the first-time player. Watch a few videos below.

We just got our hands on number 170 out of 500.

Microsoft added to the buzz leading up to the anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto IV by dropping a limited run of 500 GTA-branded Xbox 360 Elite systems and a briefcase full of peripherals today. We got our hands on number 170 out of 500. More pics after the jump.

The guys at Xbox took an Elite system and, using automotive-quality paint, touched up the sides of the 360 with the GTA IV box art and a serial number. Not a bad way to welcome the first title in the franchise that didn’t drop as a Sony exclusive. Rockstar is also producing exclusive episodes for 360 users available for download this fall. Hopefully it involves Bill Gates and Warren Buffet rolling up on GTA IV’s featured hitter Niko Bellic. The game finally drops on April 29. Unfortunately, the limited run of GTA IV 360s ain’t available in stores.
