Movies Ayo! Scott: Should You Watch Watchmen?

watchmen_lead.jpg
Nobody gets to see Dr. Manhattan’s big blue balls for free.

Ayo! Scott is not a fanboy (or a fan of boys, for that matter). Genius does recognize genius, though, which is why 12 single issues of Alan Moore’s 1986-87 comic classic Watchmen sit on Ayo!'s bookshelf, right next to the Hustler mag that pioneered labial close-ups. As a collection, the story of a disbanded team of flawed, masked vigilantes trying to solve the murder of one of their own and prevent nuclear holocaust in an alternate 1985 has gone on to become one of the best-selling books of all time and led to generations of fawning fanboys.

In the February/March 2009 issue of Complex, we brought you a “Shotcaller” interview with Watchmen director Zack Snyder (click here to read the article). Like his adaptation of Alan Moore’s epic graphic novel, our feature was so deep that we had to edit some of the brilliance out just to make it fit on newsstands.

To see the complete version of the film that Snyder wanted to put out, you’ll have to wait for the director’s uncut ultimate blowout version of Watchmen on DVD, but you can get all the extras from our interview right now. Read on for Snyder discussing his relationship with Alan Moore, being spoofed and his awesome upcoming projects…

Movies The Watchmen Trailer Must Be Watched

watchmentrailer_main.jpg
Over 20 years after producer Lawrence Gordon first bought the rights to Alan Moore’s classic graphic novel, the Watchmen movie is finally coming to life. While the flick doesn’t drop until March 2009, the first trailer (which will be playing before screenings of The Dark Knight this weekend) leaked out late yesterday.

There’s been a lot of speculation about whether or not a complex character study like this can ever be done justice in a two hour movie. But even the biggest skeptics have to admit that the trailer makes it look like director Zack Snyder (300) is on the right track. And damn, Jeffrey Dean Morgan really does look exactly like The Comedian. Watch it below.

Movies Create Fake TV Ads For The Watchmen Movie

watchmenlogo_main.jpgIn the world of the comic book (and soon to be movie) Watchmen, businessman Adrian Veidt (a.k.a. masked vigilante Ozymandias) runs Veidt Industries, the omnipresent company that owns everything from an airline to a sneaker collection. Commercials for Veidt are slated to play on TVs throughout the film, and director Zach Snyder is asking the fans to create them in a new Youtube contest.

To enter, simply go to the contest’s page, download the assets (logos, pictures of the products, etc), create your video and upload it for your shot at contributing to the film’s final cut, which hits theaters on March 6, 2009. After the jump, check out Snyer’s introductory message and watch two examples of Veidt Industries ads.

Movies On The Set Of The Watchmen Movie

watchmen_main.jpg
When the first photos of the characters surfaced last month, our appetite was officially whet for the film adaptation of Watchmen, one of the greatest comics of all time. Despite the fact that Night Owl looks suspiciously like Bale-era Batman, we’ve still got faith in 300 director Zach Snyder to do the Alan Moore classic justice.

Now, Warner Bros. is taking the inside look beyond just production stills with 12 on-set video blogs. The first joint takes a look at some of the major locations used in the film, including Dr. Manhattan’s lab, Rorschach's jail cell and an old school seedy take on New York City. After the jump, watch the video and see the full character photos that you might have missed.
