Gucci Mane has given us street anthems for years now, so we’re not surprised that he’s expanding his appeal by catering to the ladies with “Spotlight,” the first single off The State vs. Radric Davis. It might be a little odd to see a guy who was just the South’s best kept secret dancing around with Usher now, but stuff like this comes with the territory of success. We’ll deal with it for now, but we still need to hear the standard La Flare content on this album. We’ll find out if the LP delivers in that aspect on December 8, or when it leaks in a couple weeks. Burrrr!

• Almost two years ago, indie rock bloggers and critics turned these guys into stars overnight. Now they’re back, with a slightly evolved sound but nothing too left-field. • Surprisingly, rappers haven’t raped this The Verve sample since “Bittersweet Symphony” came out a decade or so ago. Because of that, Wale still sounds fresh over this old DJ Toomp beat. It’s still not fucking with the original’s classic placement in Cruel Intentions though. No shots.

Well, yes and no. Yes because we found it odd that we’re deemed not as important as people whose contribution to journalism amounts to a Blogspot account, and no because WE WENT TO HIS HOUSE ANYWAY, BITCHES*. R. Kelly’s butler, “Number One,” serves everyone lemonade. He says it’s officially called a “You’re In R. Kelly’s House Now Cocktail,” or just “You’re In” for short. The glass is warm to the touch. I pass.

Sneak out of the room and down a back hallway, where I find a map kiosk like they have in malls. This dude has a TCBY on the third floor! Gotta remember to stop by the “Feelin’ On Yo Beauty Salon” for an edge-up before I leave.

Converge with journalists as they’re being ushered into the studio. Yes, there’s actually an usher. And it’s actually Usher! He looks sad. I excuse myself to use the restroom.

Nice touch on the novelty urinal cakes, Kellz! Could do without the yellow food coloring in the faucets, though.

Start poking around the studio area. One of these rooms looks reeeeeally familiar. Oh, this is the room where a guy who totally wasn’t R. Kelly had sex with an underage girl!

They say that if you can make a woman laugh, you can get in her pants. And judging by the stories we’ve been hearing from our homie Aziz Ansari, the star of MTV sketch comedy show Human Giant, no truer words have been spoken.

A couple weeks ago Aziz kicked off his “Glow In the Dark” stand-up tour (check the IM chat with Kanye that got the whole thing started), and apparently he’s been fighting off groupies like David Hasselhoff at an AARP convention ever since. We’ve been in touch with Aziz about working on some stuff for next year (spoiler!), and he wanted to share the latest road stories from his debauched tour. Read on to see what went down last weekend, in his own words…

FRIDAY:

I Fly into Chicago for the night. My friend Nick Kroll is opening this show for me and we rent a car to drive to Notre Dame on Saturday. We have a night to kill in Chicago.

We hit up the delicious Blackbird for dinner. While we are there, a woman comes up to our table and asks if I’m R&B superstar Usher.

I say, “No, unfortunately, I’m not Usher.”
“Wow, you really look like Usher!”
“I’m kidding, of course I’m Usher, sit down, have a drink with us.”

We started chatting and later that evening, we made out. It was awesome.

SATURDAY:

After the show in Notre Dame, Kroll and I were hanging out in the hotel lobby about to head to bed early to take it easy. I’m reading an op-ed in the New York Times by Paul Krugman. I feel a tap on my shoulder. It’s Paul Krugman.

“Hey! You’re reading my op-ed!!” he says.
“Yeah, Paul I am, that’s so crazy. I was about to head to bed, good meeting you,” I respond.
“Fuck no! I just won a Nobel Prize for economics, let’s go find some pussy!”

I know everyone thinks musician is the profession that leads to the most groupie love, but these people have never went out hunting for pussy with a Nobel Prize Winner in Economics. These dudes roll hardcore. The “Krug-Man,” as he prefers to be called when drinking, is able into waltz into any nightclub/bar in America and within a few minutes drop the fact that he predicted the current financial crisis months ago and next thing you know, girls are losing their shit. Neither Nick nor myself made out with anyone that night, but Paul made out with enough women for all three of us.

At the end of the evening fellow Times Op-Ed columnist Bob Herbert pulled up in a limo and opened up the door and said “Whattttup!!! Next stop'the hot tub!” The top of the limo then retracted revealing a HOT TUB IN THE BACK OF THE LIMO. The two Op-Ed writers hopped into the limo based hot tub with 7 girls and peeled out quicker than the economic downturn affected Iceland. We never saw them again.

SUNDAY:

On Sunday, Kroll and I had to fly back to LA. As I got on my flight, I realized I was seated next to a very, very attractive passenger. We started chatting and I thought it was clear she was interested in hooking up. As we head to the bathroom, someone trips me. I look over. It’s Usher.

“Hey Aziz, what the fuck is this shit you were pulling in Chicago?
Telling people you’re me!”
“Usher, it’s a misunderstanding, I’m sorry.”

Usher then did a weird dance move that was also somehow a fighting move that resulted in me getting kicked in the face. He proceeded to yell “HOOOOOOOOOOO!” at such a loud volume that it exploded the emergency exit door. Usher and I, not buckled, are instantly sucked out of the plane. Next thing you know, we’re in the air fighting.

A third passenger, flys out of the plane, with 3 large backpacks.

It’s Krugman.

“Listen players, there’s a enough ladies for all of us! Take these handgliders!!!”
He tosses the bags toward us, which turn into handgliders, and we glide back to the plane.

Once we got back in the plane, all differences were settled and we fucked every one on the plane and the flight even landed on time. What a weekend!

The New York Giants. The Washington Redskins. Giants Stadium, 7 p.m, NBC. Oh yeah, we’re ready for some muthafuckin’ football! Since 2002, the NFL season opener has kicked off on a Thursday night'in the past we’ve been ambivalent about the midweek start, but this year we’re ecstatic to have a respite from the Republican National Convention. (Of course the Republicans still fucked it up by forcing an early kickoff so the game doesn’t conflict with McCain’s acceptance speech…just pray for overtime!)

Like the Super Bowl, the Thursday night opener has become event television. To prepare you for the festivities, we’ve listed five things below for you to check for during tonight’s game…

#1: BAD PRE-GAME MUSIC

The NFL has enlisted Keith Urban, Usher, and Natasha Bedingfield to perform before the game, meaning its main fan bases are covered'rednecks, blacks, and closeted gays.

#2: ANNOYING GIANTS FANS

Expect loads of camera shots of smug, meathead Giants fans whooping it up in the stands. In the year after a team wins the Super Bowl, their fans go all Yeezy: You can’t tell them nothing. They get NFL bragging rights for a year. They get to wear those fucking lame “Champions” T-shirts. And their team kicks ass in Madden. Live it up while you can, Giants fans. #3: THE HELMET CATCH

…which leads to the next certainty: You will be seeing this fucking lucky-ass play replayed at some point tonight, and maybe in every Giants game for the entire season. [Ed note #2: Again, this was written by a Redskins-stan]

#4: A JASON CAMPBELL-TO-CHRIS COOLEY TOUCHDOWN

Why do we think this will happen? Well, we watched the Redskins fantasy football draft, and guess who Campbell picked as his TE? CHRIS COOLEY. You better believe JC’s gonna get his boy touches.

#5: ELI MANNING’S RETURN TO EARTH

It wasn’t so long ago'in fact, it was during last season'that Eli was getting booed at Giants Stadium. Sure, he redeemed himself big-time in the SB, but we’ve got the feeling we’ll be seeing the “Eli Manning Face” at least once tonight. The Palin family will undoubtedly be pulling for him, though.
