Twitter can be great, it’s true. Whether you’re a Senator talking policy during a State of the Union speech or a candy company just trying to regain some buzz, it’s a networking tool par excellence.
Sometimes, though, the banality can get a bit much. Like, say, when you decide to tell your fans that you’re joining Jay Electronica in a “spiritual fast” that requires you to drink only “natural juices” for 48 hours. We’ll give Puff props for putting himself out there, but we realize that not all of you are following him on Twitter, so we decided to break down the colossally significant event for you*, our loyal readers…

- Teacher’s pet: Weezy made a surprise stop at his former stomping grounds Eleanor McMain Secondary School in New Orleans. He thanked students for designing a party invite and then politely declined an invitation to go to the prom. Check the uneventful video here. Oh, and he also announced that Tha Carter III will finally be released in April.
- Lunar: Although we like to think Page Six does their best to get the story right, it’s very hard to believe this Damon Dash got scared of the Moon story.
- Roots: Check out this interview with ?uestlove. He talks about sampling, being hard on Puffy back in the day, and how good the new N.E.R.D record was that he previewed, “Like, I think Pharrell got something in his soul that’s just saying, “I can’t rely on just my good looks and fashion sense. Muhfuckas are tryna count me out, and I got to not just come back, but really kick their ass.” I mean, the four or five songs I heard, it’s like, this dude is coming back like he got a score to settle.
- Sour taste?: Here’s at least 8 reasons why Flavor Flav is starting to lose all respect.
It would've been nice if Nas would've released his long awaited new record, Hip Hop Is Dead, to coincide with his birthday party Wednesday night in NYC at Canal Room. But with the drop date postponed til December at the earliest, wifey Kelis pulled out all the stops for Mr. Jones and threw him a surprise bash, with DJ Goldfinger on the decks and an assortment of celebrity guests, not to mention Playboy bunnies popping out of a birthday cake. Complex managed to put down the Henn-dog for a few minutes and snap some flix. Happy b-day, Nasir.

The cake was delicious. We mean the real one with the candles.

Tracy Morgan (right) will soon be the funniest man on the planet, once the NBC sitcom Thirty Rock premieres.

We weren't that excited to hear that the Roots were putting out their 50th album, let alone with a major push from their old pal, Def Jam boss Jay-Z. Not that Game Theory is bad (nor is it great); it's just like, not necessary. Plus, we're big fans of ?uestlove's turntable skills. Which, along the promise of free booze, lured us out to Cielo Tuesday night for the Roots' 50th record release party. In case ?uest, who turned in a mercifully light-on-Roots-tracks DJ set, decides to quit his day job, we're sure Def Jam boss Jay-Z will gladly keep the funky drummer in his pocket. We won't be mad either.

We’re sure Jay-Z is laughing with ?uestlove and not at him.
