The holiday season must be upon us, as we’ve been seeing more and more fair isle sweaters out here on the east coast. The knitting technique used to create patterns with multiple colors has been around for a minute, but first gained popularity back in the 1920’s when the Prince of Wales began rocking shirts with this type of knit in public. Now this throwback has returned with a slick modern styling. But are they too cheesy and festive? Tell us if these sweaters should be HUMP‘d or if they need to be DUMP‘d. Vote below…

Usually associated with mailmen and crazy bike messengers, the messenger bag has crossed over from parcel delivery to becoming a popular alternative to the backpack. And why not—messenger bags (also called courier bags) offer the same toting ability as a backpack while offering easier access to your stuff while you’re on the go. Really, who wants to swing a heavy backpack around your shoulders every time you have to take out a book or magazine on the train? So the function is there, but what about the form? Should these be HUMPed or do they need to be DUMPed like last weeks leftover’s? Vote below.

Damn, is it time to whip out the gloves already? We’re still waiting for the temp to drop a little more before we do, but that’s not stopping a bunch of dudes from taking to fingerless gloves to pass the time between now and then.

Usually worn functionally (think bike messengers), they’ve found new popularity as a purposeful alternative to bulky, full fingered gloves, allowing you to do things you normally couldn’t with gloves on: dial a number on your cell phone, eat a hot dog, flex your PSP skills. So they’re useful, yeah, but are they hot? We’re still on the fence, what say y’all? Vote to ‘HUMP’ or ‘DUMP’ fingerless gloves below…

We love plaid. Not as much as Jazze Pha, but enough to know that the right piece of plaid can make your whole outfit pop. With fall sprinting into winter, our plaid garment of choice this season is the plaid jacket. Rooted in the 1970’s western workman culture, this throwback has returned with a modern style full of rugged countryside appeal. What do y’all think? Should these be HUMPed or do they need to be DUMPed like Jazze’s sweater vests? Vote below..

What are slouch beanies, you ask? The term may be unfamiliar, but the look surely isn’t—we’re referring to those sagging, oversized skullies that have quietly taken over the streets this year. Sorta like Becks x hobo x Shibuya urchin on some faux rocker/skateboarder ish. Not that we’re totally hating, mind you. Since slouchies rest a little bit off the head, they are loose and comfortable, which makes them wearable even when it isn’t brick-ass cold. They also work for dudes with longer hair who want to achieve that perfectly disheveled steez. So, then slouch beanies: yay or nay? Vote ‘HUMP’ or ‘DUMP’ below…

Fedoras are increasingly becoming an everyday hat this season, especially among those who want to go for that Mad Men steez. But these days, wearing a fedora is less about channeling the ’60s and more about incorporating one classy accessory to smarten up a modern look. So we got these three distinguished fellas—Justin Timberlake outside the Madeo restaurant in Hollywood; Ne-Yo at his fundraiser in NYC; and Ginuwine at his record release party in Hollywood—wearing fedoras to complement their distinct outfits. Do you tip your hat to this trend? Or are these retro toppers at the bottom of your list? Tell us how you feel by voting HUMP or DUMP below…

Timberland has been holding the boot game down forever, but construction Tims used to be a cold-weather-only look (unless you’re part of Boot Camp Clik or less than a year outta prison). Nevertheless, some Complex-friendly artists have been spotted recently bending those rules by rocking Tims in the summer. Sure you might have had a few of them when Pharrell, Justin Timberlake, and Ashton Kutcher were wearing them in 2003, but like it or not, trucker hats are making a come back in 2009. These foam-front, mesh-side, snap back-having hats might have lost their popularity in the last couple years (unless you’re a big Ed Hardy fan), but streetwear staples like The Hundreds, Supreme, BBC, and Stussy have included them in their spring/summer 2009 lookbooks. We’re not quite sure why, but during our travels we’ve noticed a resurgence of headbands. What was once an accessory relegated to the tennis and basketball courts then made fashionable by hippies in the ’60s and girls going for that earthy look, has resurfaced on men as one of the must-have wardrobe accessories for celebrities. We’ve seen Ashton Kutcher and one of the Jonas Brothers rockin’ ‘em; that alone may be reason enough for you to give up headbands altogether, but love it or leave it, this trend seems to be on the rise. Slick Rick and Gucci Mane may respectfully disagree, but when it comes to mens jewelry, we always tend to think less is more. Not only is it distasteful to rock the equivalent of a small car around your neck in these trying times (if you haven’t learned by now, there’s a good chance you will get got), it’s really hard to pull off the multi-chain look without looking like a douche.

All that said, we’ve been seeing a bunch of non-rapping celebrities and plain ol’ non-celebrities donning a massive number of necklaces lately, which leads us to believe this may be a major trend this summer. What do you think? Should dudes relegate themselves to one chain and leave it at that, or is more always better? Vote ‘HUMP’ or ‘DUMP’ below…

Just because the Skittles look is tailing off doesn’t mean that your outfit needs to be devoid of all color. A little flash here and there can make your outfit pop like a bottle of Rosé. If you’re looking to inject some flavor into your wardrobe this summer, you may want to look at what appears to be the hue of the season: neon.

We’ve seen this trend on the streets of Berlin, New York and San Francisco, and although a neon overdose is an automatic fail, the right neon accessories can liven up your outfit without making you look like a Euro-raver. Whether it be a full-on look like on our eccentric homie Taz Arnold, or quick hits—like lite-brite sneakers from Nike and adidas—neon is the color for this summer. But is it over-the-top or just on-point? You be the judge. Tell us how you feel by voting on whether to ‘HUMP’ or ‘DUMP’ the trend below…

Visor sunglasses are popping off in London, Tokyo, and San Francisco. The functional Lady Gaga-esque sunglasses are great for the beach ’cause the girls you’re checking out won’t know you’re staring too hard. Even your grandpa, with his heavy-prescription sunglasses, is all over this trend. But is it too over-the-top or just on point? You be the judge. The homie Chris Bosh (far right) is a Raptor all right.

Like some fine-ass arm candy, a well-chosen accoutrement can definitely complete your outfit. A pocket square will accentuate a suit (or even a denim jacket) with a touch of class and a dash of color. Whether you’re channeling Humphrey Bogart or Cab Calloway, it’s all in the details.

We’ve already taught you the different variations to folding a pocket square—the guy to the left has the simple triangle fold, dude in the middle has a little more, uh, “flourish,” and finally, Chris Bosh sports the classic square-ended fold. But is the overall effect sophisticated or just over-the-top? You be the judge. The ladies are wearing less and less these days, which leaves the fellas to bust out their…uh, shorts. Cargo shorts are still the old standby, but lately we’ve seen a lot of plaid shorts creeping on the streets. Full-length plaid pants are a little much but the colorful patterns seem to work better with shorts—perfect for the onset of summer. But are plaid shorts all-good like Tiger Woods? Or are they Dick-el-son like Mickelson? Tell us how you feel by voting on whether to ‘HUMP’ or ‘DUMP’ the trend below…
Joining the influx of ’80s trends terrorizing the streets, the infamous touristy pouch known as the fanny pack is popping off these days in London, Tokyo and New York. Back in the late ’90s, there was a brief period when jumbo-sized North Face fanny packs were the move, but in 2009, the travel-sized accessory is going a little style-forward and high-fashion. You can’t front on the functionality (perfect for your wallet, passport, bottled water, and, er, lipstick, etc.) but is the man-pouch look a little much? It’s getting warmer out and people have been rocking scoop neck T-shirts everywhere. It’s spring time, which means color schemes are getting lighter to match the warm weather. Nautical stripes have always been a classic look for spring, but they’re really making big waves in the spring/summer collections from designers like D&G, Vivienne Westwood, and Lacoste. No longer confined to T-shirts and sweaters, navy-inspired patterns are now appearing on everything from blazers to shorts. We definitely like the stripes, but is this an overdose on seamen (ayo!)? “Nava-who?” Fellas, careful how you say this one around the ladies. Navajo patterns made some major noise at Fashion Week this year and the colorful, intricate designs definitely caught our eye. Designers like Ralph Lauren, Gaultier and Vivienne Westwood went back to America’s real roots to give us a go-to look for spring. Shit, we’ve stolen everything else from the Native Americans, why not their style? OK, we kid. Consider the look an homage to the tribes of yesteryear, big-chief style.
