Eva Mendes is the key ingredient to a Cuban sandwich.
This Christmas, the holiday spirit we’re trying to get into is Eva Mendes. Though we’re not particularly interested in The Spirit, her new comic adaptation directed by novice filmmaker and old comic coke head Frank Miller, we’ll go see her play Sand Saref on Jesus’ b-day just so we can spend the holiday with the Cuban-American queen. Mendes first reeled us in by going fully nude in Training Day, but other than that she’s been in some real trash (Exit Wounds, All About the Benjamins, 2 Fast 2 Furious, Ghost Rider, etc.).
Still, we can’t help but love her for being funny and naked so damn much (two things we really love in our ladies, and you can guess the third). Before The Spirit’s Christmas release, Complex unwraps Eva Mendes in Wifey or Trifey, so read on and decide if she qualifies as a chick to bring home for the holidays.

It’s time to mark your calendars for January, 16, 2009'the day the Frank Miller’s solo directorial debut The Spirit hits theatres. You know (and probably love) Miller for creating 300 and Sin City, and also for co-directing (with Robert Rodriguez) 2006’s big screen adaptation of the latter. Well from the looks of The Spirit teaser, which leaked this weekend, he’s going back to the same dark, splash-of-color look that made Sin City so visually arresting.
For those who don’t know, The Spirit is a pioneering comic strip created by Will Eisner that started running in the 1940s. The comic’s namesake (who will be played by Gabriel Macht in the film) is a resurrected vigilante who fights crime in the fictional metropolis of Central City. Samuel L. Jackson will play his nemesis Octopus, while Scarlett Johanson, Eva Mendes, Paz Vega and Jamie King will be adding the feminine touch. Watch the trailer after the jump.

With Sin City’s Frank Miller writing and directing the big screen version of Will Eisner’s The Spirit, two legends in the comic game have joined forces. How could it get any better? Well, for one, Scarlett Johansson is playing Silken Floss, Spirit’s femme fatale character and co-conspirator to Octopus (played by Samuel L. Jackson). The first photos of Scar-Jo in her Silken costume have leaked, and they appear to show shorty dressed as a nurse. Does this mean that elements from Silken Floss MD will be in the film? We’ll have to wait until they debut the trailer at this month’s New York Comic Con to find out. After the jump, see all the photos of Scarlett Floss and the three new Spirit posters.
