Music ‘Leaders Of The New Cool’ Week: The Knux

knuxleadersweek_main.jpg
Yeah, we’re out of the office today for Yom Kippur, but LOTNC Week is a godless beast that must be fed. To announce the arrival of our star-studded October 2008 fashion feature “Leaders Of The New Cool” (see a special video version of it here), we’ve been dropping behind the scenes video interviews with the artists all week.

Today, let us introduce you to Krispy Kreame and Rah Almillio, known collectively as The Knux. These blood brothers from New Orleans are about to drop their crazy, unpredictable debut Remind Me In 3 Days… on Interscope, and Complex is co-signing. Last week we announced a contest to find the dopest design for an official Knux t-shirt, and you’ve got until next Tuesday (October 14) to get your submissions in (click here for more info on the design contest). For now, watch our video interview with Krispy and Al below, where they explain why they’d rather be looked at like a rock band than a rap group…

Music When The Knux Go ‘Bang Bang’

knuxbangbang_main.jpgRap's a circus. Every time you hit the 'net, you see artists trying to pull each other’s cards, blaming them for the supposed horrible state of music or crying on camera. So it's kinda refreshing to hear some dudes that actually try to push this rap shit in a new direction. And we don't mean some positive, snooze-inducing rap that is actually just a rehash of decade old Dilla beats. We mean a whole new sound. That's what The Knux are trying to do.

If you haven't heard of these dudes before, they're two classically trained musicians from New Orleans who rap and happen to be brothers. After dropping their first single, “Cappuccino,” a light heartened ode to caramel skinned ladies, a few months back, the duo is done hollering at shorties with their murderous second single “Bang Bang.” They’ve got plans to shoot a video for this one in preparation of their Interscope debut Remind Me In 3 Days…, which drops on October 14. After the jump, listen to “Bang Bang” and let us know what you think.

Music The Knux Secretly Hit The Stage In NYC

knux1.jpg
Last night, New Orleans transplants The Knux went from the airport straight to the stage at 205 Club in NYC’s Lower East Side. Charged off the hype from their jumpoff single, “Cappucino” the (biological) brothers Krispy and Al (left to right) rocked an intimate performance of exclusive tracks from their Interscope debut Remind Me In 3 Days, due this summer.

Their on-stage chemistry poured through every song, especially when Krispy ad-libbed off-stage in the audience while his little brother’s flow resurrected the era of Tribe and Pharcyde’s golden heyday. After the jump, see a few flicks from the show.
