Take a closer look at luxury goods produced in nations that used to rely solely on foreign imports.

Face it, fam: Japan can’t make everything. As globalization continues to level the playing field, nations that have historically depended on foreign imports for luxury items are creating their own lines of affordable homegrown goods. As featured in our 2009 Style & Design package, we’re taking a closer look at the pros and cons of three notable new products made in developing countries. Read on to see how the whole world is getting involved…

COUNTRY: Brazil
PRODUCT: Zeebo gaming console, $249
PROS: In a country where a PS3 can retail for $1,000, the new Zeebo is a budget-friendly alternative that—with a 3G set-up borrowed from cellphone technology—allows users to buy and download games wirelessly. Capcom, Namco, and EA are already on board to produce software.
CONS: Though the company plans to expand into Mexico, India, and China, its decidedly last-gen graphics are a drawback for serious gamers. Plus, PS3 and Xbox 360 are slashing prices like carmakers these days.

COUNTRY: India
PRODUCT: Tata Nano car, $2,500
PROS: Tata Motors’ “People’s Car” has four seats, a two-cylinder engine, and gets 56 mpg—and it’s cheaper than a loaded 17” MacBook Pro (or 17 iPod Nanos). More than 200,000 people in India bought the Tata Nano in its first month of sales.
CONS: The car should do well in emerging markets but with no trunk or power steering, Tata’s plans to bring the Nano stateside seem a little far-fetched. The thing makes a Civic look like a Maybach.

The best part of a recession is you can “project” just about anything, an idea that comes in handy when you’re trying to pitch your part of the world to tourists and magazine editors. At a recent press conference to promote Australian tourism, futurologist (yeah we know) Ian Yeoman stated, “Robotics will become important, because you’re going to have labor shortages in the future…Even robot “prostitutes” that would not pass on diseases such as HIV could make an appearance.”

Sounds good to us. Hey Ian: below is our list of top ten robot women we’d like to have sex with. If you can work on getting these made real, we’ll book our tickets. Just let us know when the ladies are ready and we’ll be there with a 10-page cover story, thanks…

MARIA FROM METROPOLIS
Maria is a classic robot, and this movie dates back to 1921. The remake of this film will have her dropping a few inches off of that robot waistline (and adding a few up top), but for the 1920s, this was one hot piece of clunking scrap metal.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

AIKO from JAPAN
This thing is real! An inventor named Le Trung, who has never had a real girlfriend, built this, and it does cleaning, makes drinks and reads newspaper headlines. Homie has spent about $21,000 so far and is still improving it. Would we smash even though we know his tiny inventor wang has been up in there? Maybe if we got some hardcore cleaner and went to work…

LISA (KELLY LeBROCK) from WEIRD SCIENCE
When Kelly LeBrock popped out of that closet, we were all psyched—robot titties! And then we realized that it was 1985, we were 3 years old, and John Hughes didn’t put nudity in his movies. Oh well, there is always the remake. Wait, is she a robot or a real girl or a hologram or just CGI? Whatever, we’re on it regardless.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————

COMPARE TO: Shure SE110, Sony MDR-EX300

PRICE: $80

FUN FACT: Company founder Paul Klipsch (1904-2002) started the company in 1946 out of a tin shed in Hope, Arkansas.

WHY COMPLEX IS CO-SIGNING IT: We’re accustomed to seeing demand outpace supply when it comes to limited-edition toys, or Air Yeezys, or even Palm Pres—but mass-produced headphones? That’s a first. But ever since we tested the Klipsch Image S4 Headphones a couple of months ago, we’ve been waiting to tout these excellent earbuds to the masses—waiting, that is, for the product to go back in stock at online retailers. Well, the S4s are still completely sold out at most stores, but our friends at Klipsch assure us that they will become available in the next week or two. In the meantime, here are four reasons why you need to get your back-order on…

#1) THE SOUND QUALITY IS SUPERB.
Meaning the highs are high, the lows are low, and all that other stuff you audiophiles care about. Look, none of us are trying to be Young Guru here, but anybody who owns an iPod should be a veritable expert on headphone sound quality. The S4 headphones deliver the crispest, sharpest, bassiest, and overall best sound of any earbuds we’ve ever tried—and as NYC commuters (and habitual earbud misplacers), we’ve tried a helluva lot. When compared to other headphones in its price range (and even some more expensive competitors), the S4 is at the top of the line. You’ll never listen to Soulja Boy’s Gangsta Grillz tape the same way again.

#2) THE EARBUDS ARE COMFORTABLE…AND THEY WON’T GET LOST.
The earbuds themselves come in three different oval-shaped sizes to contour to your ear; when you settle on the right fit, they are super-comfortable and minimally obtrusive in your ear canal. (No more of those uncomfortable post JFK-to-LAX earaches.) Another great aspect of the S4 is the actual construction of the earbud foam—unlike the foams on most Sony models, the S4 foams are firmly connected to each earbud piece, meaning they won’t come loose in your backpack or fall off during your commute. Losing those earbud foams renders your headphones useless, and Klipsch has helped ensure that you’ll avoid that frustrating-as-fuck experience. There has been some concerns over the thinness of the S4 cable, but we didn’t have any problems with splitting or breakage. Our advice is to stick with the generic iBuds when working out and doing anything that might cause cord-yanking.

#3) NOT ONLY DO YOU BLOCK OUT NOISE, BUT YOU WON’T CREATE AMBIENT NOISE EITHER.
Hey, not everybody wants to hear Soulja Boy’s Gangsta Grillz tape with you, right? The S4s are considered “passive” noise-cancellation headphones, but suffice to say that you will not hear shit when you are using them. Better yet, nobody else will, either; there’s nothing more annoying than the dude who terrorizes his fellow commuters with the ambient noise of his asinine iPod playlist. Don’t be that dude. With the S4s, you won’t.

#4) THE PRICE IS RIGHT.
There was a time when you could drop $20 on headphones and call it a year, but these days, the market is absolutely flooded with choices in different price ranges. At $80, the Klipsch Image S4s are priced in the middle of the pack, but take it from us: You won’t need another set of earbuds anytime soon. If you’ll use them as much as we do—i.e., everyday—they are well worth the investment. Plus they come with a special earwax cleaning tool! We’ve been waiting for one of those, really.

With a new four-wheeled version set to debut, take a look back at the ups and down of the two-wheeled invention's career.

The New York International Auto Show starts this Friday (April 10th), and GM and Segway are expected to unveil a collaborative project that is essentially a two-person sit-down version of the Segway, everyone’s favorite love-to-hate invention of the early 2000s. This new project, named P.U.M.A. (Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility), is poised to take what’s left of the 45 year-old and paid software development set by storm.

Let us not forget the storied history of the Segway, though! These things are awesome, from Cops running down gunmen to Arrested Development’s Gob showing how an executive can make the lamest device in the world classy. Hit the jump for a brief history the Segway…
• There’s your dude, Dean Kamen. He’s a New Hampshire tinkerer, who figured out a way to jam a bunch of gyroscopes into your scooter for a little less than $6,000. After its 2001 unveiling, the device is hyped beyond any reasonable sales goals and is going to “change the world we live in”. The city of San Francisco, unfortunately, says “absolutely not,” and bans the device from SF sidewalks. Other cities follow suit, giving the device a rocky start.

• What does this have to do with the Segway? Gob’s transportation of choice, of course. The Segway doesn’t get much play until season two, but this show had a lot to do with reminding people that the machines existed, and that they could be awesomely bad. If you’ve never seen this, Netflix all three seasons now.

The new Crackberry drops today! See some photos and read our official review to find out what's changed and if it's worth picking up.

Today, T-Mobile and Blackberry team up to launch the Blackberry Curve 8900. By launch, we mean, you can go and buy this thing right now (unless you live in NYC, where it sold out in 30 mins this morning. Look into ordering it online). The O.G. Curve was great, but who doesn’t want an upgrade, right? The 8900 is slicker, faster, and cooler. If you sign on for a 2-year contract, you can cop it for $150, which is sweet.

Read on for our in-depth review and some closeup photos of the 8900…

SIZE

On its website, Blackberry states that the new 8900 Curve is the thinnest and lightest full QWERTY keyboard phone to date, and that its “striking 480×360-pixel screen offers up crisp on-the-go video, images, text, maps and more. With a refined design, the BlackBerry Curve 8900 smartphone is an easy-to-use device that delivers expanded functionality and reliable results.” All of this is true. The screen is crisp, it’s thin, and the phone is dope.

NEW VS OLD

Here’s what the 8900 Curve looks like compared to the O.G. Not too different. The 8900 is a bit more beveled, so it seems smaller, but after you start using it for a bit, we doubt you’ll notice the change in size. The menus and functionality are fairly similar, still great as far as we’re concerned. This phone has GPS, Wi-Fi, and mobile streaming. It’s not 3G, so you’re going to miss lightning-fast downloads, but the software is streamlined a bit and in our use, online aps worked more quickly than on the earlier Curve (maybe because our Curve is shitty and beat up though).

CAMERA

The new camera on this thing is pretty solid. Blackberry pumped it up to 3.2 megapixels, and it takes photos sharp and fast. Like all phones, the lens is still the size of a pin, so you will never get camera-quality photos, but its great to have the bump up when you’re trying to show your mom “how cute this dog was” or your friends “how amazing this chick’s body was”.

CONS

There are two minor downsides to the new Curve. For some reason, Blackberry decided to change the charge portal (seen above) on the phone, so it doesn’t work with your old charger. If you don’t misplace these things, good for you, but we’ve bought many replacement chargers and now they’re sitting all over the place. It would be great to use them when we lose this one’s charger. Oh well, not a huge deal. The other thing is the SIM card mount on this thing is a huge pain in the ass to get your SIM card out of. Again, not a big deal, especially if you “set it and forget it,” but just something we noticed.

SUMMARY
All in all, the 8900 is a re-tooling of the old Curve, designed to allow people on T-Mobile to stop bitching about Verizon and Cingular getting the new devices. The phone is cleaner looking, works a bit faster, and has a lot of “Oh I was hoping they’d do that.” If you need a new device, go and get this one, but if your Curve works fine, wait for the limited color editions that will drop in about six months or so.

The Japanese electronics juggernaut is posting Billions in losses. If you ask us, they made a few wrong turns along the way.

Remember the Walkman? That magical little device made the Sony brand so untouchable that signing Micheal Jackson, buying up the Beatles catalog, and repeatedly caking off of everything that had a plug on it was no problem? If you owned Sony stock in the '80s, your grandkid’s grandkids were gonna be eating steak. And then everything went horribly wrong.

Today, the New York Times is reporting that the Japanese mega electro-brand is set to post $1.1 Billion in losses, and some analysts are guessing that it might even be as high as $2 Billion. If you’re a current stockholder, and you bought based on the projections that the brand was anticipating $2.2 Billion in profit come March, you are bumming. This marks the first year in the past 14 that Sony will post a loss. But if you ask us, the cards have been stacked against the brand for years. Read on to see the company’s 5 biggest mistakes that got them to where they are today…

DAVID MANNING YEAR:2000

• “David Manning” was a fake film critic that a savvy marketing exec over at Sony cooked up in the summer of 2000. Who needs real reporters when you can just make up the good press yourself? After the company got caught for this, and another debacle that used Sony employees to pose as regular movie goers broke, the corporation agreed to refund $5 each to dissatisfied customers who saw Hollow Man, The Animal, The Patriot, A Knight’s Tale, or Vertical Limit in American theaters. Fail.

THE IPOD DROPS YEAR:2001

• The Sony Walkman was amazing. The Sony MiniDisc was amazing. It was better than a CD burner, better than anything out on the…wait what is that? An i-what? Oh shit. Game over.

MICHAEL JACKSON LEAVES SONY YEAR: 2002

• Was the King of Pop’s departure from the electronics brand of the 1990s a sign that things were going downhill? It depends on who you talk to. Michael thought Tommy Mottola was “the devil,” Sony said Jackson owed them tons of money. Either way, its not a good look for any of the parties involved, and since then, neither has been quite the same.

PS3 BUSINESS MODEL DOESN”T MAKE SENSE (2006)

• Video game platforms cost money to make, often more than people are willing to pay. This is not a new thing, and for years companies have been selling the actual device at a loss and re-couping losses through game sales. Unfortunately Sony posts an unusually high loss of $300 or so per platform (sells for $500, costs $800) and no one is buying the games. Oops. There is always hope that the PS3 hits the black in 2009, right?

SONY ENDS CONNECT YEAR:2008

• Aww. Another loss to the big Apple. Sony’s music store, Connect, seemed to have all the right ideas: proprietary music format, big money backing, and um… hm. Maybe this was a bad idea. This “L” in March really made you guys look like schmucks.

BLU-RAY FAILS TO TAKE OFF YEAR:2011

• Um. Sorry guys, Blu-Ray isn’t going to happen. Sure it’s cool to watch the fight scenes from Wanted in HD, but direct download and Internet-streaming video technology is getting better in quality and faster every day. By the time people actually get off their asses and re-purchase all those DVDs, direct-download HD content will be here. And you know what? You can’t scratch that shit. Oh, and while you’re at it, stop with the PSP ads on the NYC subways. It’s not going to happen.

Ah, technology. Is there anything you can’t make less lame? Even your basic park bench just got interesting thanks to German Designer Michael Schoner of NL Arcitechts, who recently unveiled the “Boombench” at Amsterdam’s annual ExperimentaDesign show.

The music-for-your-ass bench is packed with a 500-watt speaker, eight 60 watt co-axial speakers, and two subwoofers. It’s compatible with any wireless Bluetooth device, including cell phones, so be careful next time you’re secretly bumping the Miley Cyrus album while walking through the park. There’s no production plans for the bench yet, so watch the video below to see some corny kids testing it out…
It's rare that we get psyched about commercials, but when we saw Toshiba's latest marketing video for the “upscaling technology” in their new LCD TVs, DVD players and laptops, we actually found ourselves giving a shit.

The ad builds on the special effects used in The Matrix to create a new technology called Time Sculpture, which consists of altering moving snapshots instead of just doing a 3D rotation of a still. The shoot was executed by setting up a camera rig that held 200 Toshiba Gigashot HD camcorders, which captured 20,000 Gigabytes of video data and took a staggering 336 hours to sift through. Watch the innovative ad below…

Sure, they've taken some L's in the past, but we wouldn't write off the popular web service just yet. Here's why.

Yahoo! hasn’t had any positive news in a long time. And today didn’t help. Yahoo! co-founder Jerry Yang, during an interview at the Web 2.0 Summit conference admitted that his company would love for Microsoft to buy them, even though they straight up said, “Hell to the nah!” to their offers months earlier. Tough break. But despite all the negative press, everyone’s former favorite search engine is still chugging along in 2nd place. Google may have American pon lock, but Yahoo! is still the most visited website in the world.

That got us thinking, Yahoo! isn’t all that bad. There are a few things we still like about the company. Yes, they’ve made some colossal screw ups like not buying Google when they had the chance, or not buying Facebook when they had the chance, or not letting Microsoft scoop ‘em up. But there are a few things within Yahoo! that we think are worth fighting for…

YAHOO! MAIL

Yes, they were behind the curve when it came to Ajax powered email and outlandish storage sizes, but when they finally did upgrade their mail offering, they blew the doors off with a bevy of upgrades that made most other web based email services look straight up archaic. In addition to a new interface that looks more desktop software than web-based, Yahoo! added a bunch of other desktop-esque features like the ability to drag and drop your email and contacts into folders and the ability to use keyboard shortcuts.

FLICKR

What started out as a add-on tool for a multi-player game called Game Neverending has become one turned into the most popular photo organizing and sharing services on the ‘Net. Real talk: If you don’t use it yourself, we’re pretty sure you’ve looked at someone’s photos through it.

YAHOO! ANSWERS

Believe it or not, there are some things Google can’t answer. For those inquires, we find Yahoo! Answers works great. A community driven site, all you do after you register is enter a question and members will usually quickly hit you back with what they believe to be the right answers. The only bad part is that the community is made up of mainstream users, so you will sometimes get answers that aren’t really answers. But wrong answers usually spark debate within the community which is always a good thing.

YAHOO! WIDGETS

Before Apple and Microsoft offered their own widget programs with their respective operating systems, there was Konfabulator, a program that let you run small, lightweight programs called widgets that display specific information. When Yahoo! acquired them in 2005, they stripped away the $19.95 price tag, and gave it to the people for free. Sure, it’s just another platform for Yahoo to push their many services, but getting a program that works better than Dashboard for $Free.99 is undoubtedly dope.

YAHOO! MUSIC

Perhaps our favorite Yahoo! site, Yahoo! Music offers everything from music news, upcoming concerts, music videos to the ability to create your own video playlists and radio stations. Through their partnership with Pepsi they offer special live performances. They also are known for cool add-ons like FoxyTunes which allows you to control your media player from your Firefox browser.

Forget touch screens—this concept from an Israeli student projects everything on the ground in front of you.

Take it from us: touch screens on mobile phones are just the foreplay for technology’s next big jumpoff. Yeah, fingering your smart phone is cool, but the full interactivity of holograms is already on deck. At Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Israel, Ivan Tihienko’s holographic PDA concept seems likely to one day eclipse today’s pocket-sized devices.

Through the use of a digital shadow, Tihenko’s design, called the Ringo, creates a radius of multi-colored arcs on the ground around you. At the wave of a hand, the user is equipped with a standard menu of date/time, GPS, and games like air hockey and chess. Unfortunately, we’re probably gonna have to wait a few years for the technology to catch up to the concept. See the demo video below…

With straight-forward socio-political imagery from folks like Banksy and Shepard Fairey, the messages of today’s crop of street artists are usually pretty easy to understand. But what are you supposed to think when you come across a life-sized monster from Space Invaders on the street? According to Invader, the artist who posts the pixelated ’80s arcade game character on walls around the world, there’s a method to his madness.

Within his mosaic tile art, Invader has started embedding secret binary code messages that can only be cracked with an iPhone app called iMatrix. After you take a picture of one of Invader’s pieces, the program decodes it and spits out messages like “This is an invasion” or “I Invade Varanas.” Watch the artist explain it for himself in the video below…

Forget TVs in the headrest—this DIY invention flips the scene outside your car window into a interactive space game.

Now that interactive, overproduced video games have become the norm, is there a future for the old fashioned simplicity of lo-fi games like Space Invaders and Asteroid? A group of students at Berlin University of Arts developed what they call Carcade!, an in-car video game that uses the scene outside the passenger window as the backdrop for a retro space combat game

Andreas Nicolas Fischer, Martin Kim Luge and Korbinian Polk rigged a web cam to their car’s window, which digitally records the landscape of the street. That landscape runs into a laptop, where it instantly becomes the game’s environment, challanging you to navigate through the streets in a tiny spaceship that moves the same speed as your car. Watch the video demo below…
Say goodbye to chicks dancing on bars. With their touch-sensitive counter top iBar, Danish company Mindstorm has discovered a way to add entertainment value to any watering hole without relying on wasted women stomping in their stilettos.

The iBar integrates video-projectors into your everyday bar top, making it light it up when anything'drinks, hands, money'touches the surface. The company claims that the one-of-a-kind bar is compatible with any type of counter, so contact them here if you’re trying to spruce up your local dive. If you're one of those dudes who's all about impressing your friends when they roll through the crib, you might have to swap out that Fisher Price 3 in 1 Tournament Table and upgrade to this custom “disappearing” pool table that was created by Australia’s Specialised Stage Engineering.

When players want to get a round of 8-ball in, this stealthy billiards table rises from a secret trap door that's built into the floor by means of a hydraulic lift. There's been no word on how much getting a now-you-see-it-now-you-don't table installed in your house will cost, but he reactions from your guests are sure to be priceless. Watch the pool table rise in the video below…

Check out the craziest results from this D.I.Y. design competition, where consumers submitted concepts inspired by Jay-Z, Santogold and more.

Putting the power of design in the hands of the consumer has its strengths and weaknesses. It’s an opportunity for unknown designers to get some shine, but sadly sub-par concepts and uninspired execution usually overshadow the real talent. But damn, we can’t hate on the left-field designs that have come out of Nokia’s Music Almighty Headset Competition this week.

The Finnish company called on consumers to put a music-inspired spin on their line of Bluetooth earphones, using tools provided on the website like beaming lights, interchangable colors, and decorative characters. The five winners will actually be manufactured as one-of-ones and will be displayed in select retail locations.
Almost everyone uses applications like Photoshop, Word, AIM and iTunes, but these free, flexible options might work just as well.

In the world of personal technology, there are only three major players: Google, Microsoft and Apple. Why are they major? Because, like it or love it, at some point during the day, you’re going to find yourself using one of their programs or services'whether you’re doing a web search using Google, writing a paper using Microsoft Word or organizing your music using iTunes. But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Today, a new version of the GNU Image Manipulation Program (or GIMP) was released. An open source graphics editor, GIMP is completely free and could easily replace the costly Adobe program Photoshop. And there are a bunch of other open source apps that will let you do everything from playing music to sending instant messages. See some alternatives that make sense below…

OPERATING SYSTEM: UBUNTU

Linux has come a long way from the days of command line prompts and buggy installations. So much so that computer companies like Dell even sell some systems with Linux pre-installed on it. Our favorite Linux distribution is the South African based Ubuntu. With its simple and complete installation process, attractive design and built-in programs and productivity suite, it actually feels like something that could replace Windows or Mac OS. And it’s free, so it’ll cost you nothing but a couple hours of your time to check out. If you wanna give it a shot, head over to Ubuntu.com

INSTANT MESSENGER: ADIUM

If you’re currently chatting on some instant messenger service, you’re probably using the program made by the company that runs the service (Google Talk, AIM, etc), or iChat. They all work well enough, but we prefer Adium. This open source instant messenger program outlived most of their competition thanks to their inventive features (tabbed browsing, customizable backgrounds). The newest version fixes a number of bugs like the file transferring glitches and it also adds in a cool buddy list search feature which saves you time if you have a lot of buddies. The only hang up is that it’s only available for Mac OS X. Check it out at AdiumX.com

MEDIA PLAYER: VLC

Hands down, VLC is the best video player out. Its design is simple and intuitive and it can handle damn near every video format thrown at it (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, Div, mp3, ogg, …) and it can also serve as your DVD and VCD player. So all those movies you download off the net that won’t play in Windows Media Player or QuickTime without a certain codec add on, will play in VLC. You can also use it to stream any video over your network. It’s all you need. It’s available on every operating system. Download it for free at Videolan.org.

OFFICE SUITE: OPEN OFFICE

We’re not gonna lie, Microsoft Office is the shit. There’s really nothing out that can match its breadth of features and usability. That said, it’s very expensive, and most people that use Microsoft Office only use Microsoft Word. And even then they don’t use all the features that Word offers. Most people just need a program that they can bang out a paper or report on that’s more feature filled than Word Pad or Text Edit. Open Office is that program. It comes with six feature-filled programs good enough to go head-to-head with their Office rivals: Write (Word Processor), Calc (Spreadsheet), Impress (Multimedia Presentations), Draw (Graphics and Diagrams) and Base (Database). The best part? You guessed it, it’s $Free.99. Try it out at Openoffice.org.

MUSIC PLAYER: SONGBIRD

Songbird is a program on the come up. It’s an open source alternative to iTunes and Windows Media Player that offers users a bunch of interesting features like an embedded web browser, a feature that tells you about upcoming shows in your area based on the artists in your library, and the ability to download user created skins. And like Firefox, you can download community created add-ons including one that allows you to sync SB to your iPod. Sure, it apes the design of iTunes, but if for some reason you want more out of your digital jukebox, Songbird is worth a shot. Check it out at Getsongbird.com.

Without using any actual water, a Spanish designer managed to perfectly mimic an ocean's soothing ripple effects in this trippy exhibit.

What makes water so calming? Normally you’d have to trek to the Caribbean to study its best qualities, like a deep blue color and hypnotic ripple effect. But now a Spanish designer has recreated the soothing spectacle of an ocean'without using any actual water'for an exhibit called Waterdrop.

Héctor Serrano Studio created the installation in collaboration with Javier Esteban by using a framework of glowing blue metal rods and an underlying rolling mechanism to mimic the movement produced by a single drop of water. The work was commissioned by innovative bathroom designers Roca, who recently displayed it in a dark room at the 100% Design London event. Watch a trippy video of the exhibit below…
Crying out “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” is pretty pointless if no one’s around to hear it. But now clumsy old folks (and drunk young people) have a little extra protection when they take the inevitable spill'at this year’s International Home Care and Rehabilitation Exhibition, Tokyo-based company Prop unveiled a jacket equipped with multiple airbags.

When the user begins a backwards descent, the $1,400 strap-on product will inflate a bag behind the head and hips in an impressive 0.1 seconds, cushioning the fall.
The classic pencil and paper game has been transformed into a glowing, touch-sensitive board filled with H2O.

Good ‘ol water. Is there anything H2O can’t do? You wanna cook food, clean clothes, mix up a little Kool Aid…power a game of tic-tac-toe? Yeah it does that too. Studio Khan, a design collective from Israel figured out a way to use it the base component to light up each X and O spot in a new project they call “Water Games.”

The innovative collective flipped the pencil and paper game into a touch-sensitive process. Players dip their fingers in circles filled with water, which light up green or blue on contact. Underneath the porcelain unit lies a complex matrix (we won’t bore you with techy-talk) of wires that make the magic happen. See tic-tac-toe 4.0 in the video below…

Playstation's hand-held device has seen it's fair share of custom designs, but none as flashy as this club-ready mod.

Since most home video game consoles are getting design tweaks, mobile units like the PSP are catching up to the mod trend. One DIY engineer with the name of Travis took a clear shell of the PSP and installed 30 LED lights to blink when mp3s are played.

The synched lights and music basically brings the atmosphere of coke-filled nightclubs (and raves, if that’s your thing) to your palm. For his demo, Travy chose to get shit poppin’ by using Lil Wayne’s “Lollipop” as a test run. See the bright lights for yourself in the video below.
