#1: WHAT’S YOUR NUMBER ONE DEAL-BREAKER FOR A POTENTIAL GIRLFRIEND?

Steve Nash says: My wife. [Laughs.] Other than that, I would say a lack of intelligence. Things just don’t last very long when you’re having a conversation with someone who can’t think for themselves.

#2: WHAT’S THE WORST WAY YOU’VE BROKEN UP WITH SOMEONE?

Steve Nash says: I never really had that many serious girlfriends. A lot of unserious girlfriends though, so the break-ups don’t really count. The serious girlfriends I’ve had, have been very respectable and diplomatic so I don’t have any horror stories. But, there was a girl when I was in junior high who for some reason I could never convince to date me.

#3: WHEN’S THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED?

Steve Nash says: I would say probably in the last month or so. It had something to do with my family. It was something stupid where emotions got the better of me.

#4: IF YOU HAD A WEEK-LONG HOLIDAY, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Steve Nash says: I’d love to go somewhere warm, somewhere near the beach and somewhere with a cool culture. It could be Hawaii, Cuba, South America—anywhere that has a cool culture and a beautiful climate. I love to spend a lot of time outside and the weather in New York has been terrible lately.

#5. WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE SNEAKER OF ALL TIME?

Steve Nash says: Right now I wear a lot of—pardon me—Nike, and Vans and Chucks. But for sneaker of all time, I’m sure there’s a few Nikes I love to wear, I just can’t think of them right now. I love the first pair I ever got. They’re the black-and-blue Jordans, the first edition I think.

#6: WHAT’S THE MOST EMBARRASSING PIECE OF CLOTHING YOU’VE EVER WORN?

Steve Nash says: I probably have a lot of them in my closet if we go through the annals of history. But, the suit my agent picked out for me from when I got drafted was just awful. It was a dark suit with white socks and at the time I thought it was really cool. Looking back on it now though it was pretty dismal.

#7: WHAT HAS TO BE IN YOUR FRIDGE AT ALL TIMES?

Steve Nash says: Fruit. I love fruit. Any type, I love it all. My favorite fruit—this sounds kind of fruity—but I love apples, oranges, grapes, bananas, mangoes, melons, watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew. I just love fruit.

Complex: : The 2009 Showdown in Chinatown roster has NBA stars like Tony Parker, Jason Kidd, Baron Davis, and Chris Bosh in the line-up. Who’s the best soccer player and who should stick to basketball?

Steve Nash: I haven’t seen Tony play but he grew up in France so he might be pretty good. Jason played quite a bit in high school and while growing up so I know he’s a pretty good player. I’d say Baron Davis was the worst player last year—but by far the funniest and one of the crowd favorites, so he’ll be starting this year. And Chris Bosh also has a great sense of humor.

Complex: What’s it like playing along soccer stars such as Joe Cole and Thierry Henry?

Steve Nash: It’s amazing. First of all, they’re incredible athletes. And it’s also amazing how the energy of New York brings the best out of these guys. We’re not playing in a stadium, it’s in a park on a street and the fans are standing right next to their heroes. The players really get into it and it makes for such an amazing event. As for competition, professional athletes are professional athletes so everyone’s just as competitive as each other. Everyone’s got an amazing amount of pride and a love for competition that’s been built up over the years.

While the Portuguese midfielder is undeniably one of the world’s best footballers, he’s also one of sport’s most, uh, flamboyant dressers. Now we’re not so immature as to question homie’s off-field predilections (though hooking up with Paris is always a bad look), but it must be said: As far as style goes, Cristiano is totally in a league of his own. If you thought Beckham was a vain prissy boy, then you ain’t seen nothing yet. So, to celebrate his move to Madrid, we’re taking a quick look back at Cristiano Ronaldo’s craziest outfits…

But the game that really caught our eye was FIFA Soccer 09 (in stores October 14). Somewhere in the last few years, EA’s FIFA franchise caught up with Konami’s Pro Evo series, and now it’s clear that FIFA has passed it for good. Building on the success of FIFA Soccer 08 and the summer’s UEFA EURO 2008 title, FIFA Soccer 09 has the makings of the best footy title ever. Check out our hands-on impressions of the game and more screenshots are after the jump.

GAMEPLAY: We played an exhibition game against a colleague (Arsenal v. England, go figure), and what was immediately evident is the intuitiveness of the controls. What impressed us about UEFA EURO 2008 was the improved “through ball” control, making passes into space seem more like real football. FIFA Soccer 09 builds on that and makes it even smoother, so you can incorporate intricate “Total Football”-style passing into your game. Even as an early version of the title, the game engine felt seamless and the movements instinctual. As good as FIFA Soccer 08 is, the game sometimes feels a little choppy. FIFA Soccer 09 is fluid all the way.

GRAPHICS: Seems like FIFA Soccer 09 has hundreds of new animations'in just a 10-minute game, we saw dozens of them. Collision dynamics are greatly improved (players will jostle each other in pursuit of the ball), the tackling is more varied (i.e., it’s not the same slide tackle over and over again), and player models are more realistic than ever. EA obviously paid attention to the little things too: when you send a player on a run, he points to where he wants his pass, and there are a multitude of ways that players can tumble. You can even tackle your own teammate! (Sorry, Rosicky.)

EXTRAS: We had a lot of fun with the customizable goal celebrations in UEFA EURO 2008 (especially online, suckas!!!), and apparently others did too, because EA put them in FIFA Soccer 09. Nothing better than rubbing a goal in the face of your opponent by executing an elaborate celebration. Overall, the game looks incredible and we can hardly wait to play it for real. Pro Evo, time to stop slacking. You’re getting left behind.

The sports jersey game never really recovered from Jay-Z’s anti-throwback mandate in 2003, but there remains an unexploited frontier'the world of soccer uniforms (or “football kits,” to be more precise).

Pusha T rocks an all-black long-sleeve Manchester United kit in Clipse’s “Fast Life” video, making it one of the first times we’ve ever seen an American rapper wear a soccer uniform as a fashion statement. The arcade-style practice game measures how hard you kick, and also helps you master the proper way to strike a soccer ball. We’ll have to put off watching that TiVo’d episode of Pros vs. Joes for another night, because there’s no way we can pass up an opportunity to see Henry dangle the dignity out of David Lee. The CSC started out as just another powerhouse team in adi's annual tournament, but today has grown into a year-round soccer league located in NYC's Chinatown, where futballers engage in friendly matches. The low-run (350 were made in total) sneaker, will be reserved for retail spots like Dave's Quality Meat (NYC), Arkitip (LA) and Stil Laden (Vienna, Austra) and will release early June.

But we (like Kansas City) were stumped this weekend when Beckham capped off the 3-1 beating with a 70-yard half field goal straight from '96. The KC Wizards should have known better than to leave their goal more exposed than a socialite’s cooch with the veteran footballer around. Well, the swoosh has outdone themselves this time. Nike premiered its new ad during yesterday's Manchester United v. Barcelona match, and it turns out it was directed by Madonna's boo Guy Ritchie (with music from the Eagles of Death Metal) and features cameos from a host of futbol heroes, including Arsene “The Professor” Wenger, Cristiano “Man Bag” Ronaldo, “Let's Talk About” Cesc Fabregas, Marco “The Headbuttee” Materazzi, Ronaldinho, and Ruud “Horseface” van Nistelrooy. Titled “Take It To The Next Level,” the advert puts the viewer in the boots'er, shoes'of an up-and-coming professional player'sort of like Fifa 08's “Be a Pro” mode, only it's actually good. The players have now confirmed that they are seeking political asylum from their Commie homeland'America’s “wet-foot, dry-foot” policy states that any Cuban is allowed to stay in the U.S. as long as they reach American soil. After a year, they can apply for citizenship.
