• The electro-pop favorites are gearing up for the release of their next album, One Life Stand. This record isn’t quite as infectious as some of their previous work, but it’s not bad either. Fans of the sound will enjoy it regardless.

• Mr. Real Name No Gimmicks is no longer a member of the Shady Records fam, but the rhymes are still on point. Look for this on Special Reserve–out December 15.

• A few albums ago, Bradford Cox’s music was so weird that it was sometimes impossible to decipher the lyrics. He’s toned the left-field approach with his latest track. Still not for everyone, but it’s got a much better vibe that a wider variety of listeners will appreciate.

Every new song has its purpose. Sometimes newcomers are trying to get in the game. Sometimes superstars are trying to get back in the game. Both types of efforts are intriguing for their own reasons and there’s never really any guarantee of who’s going to have the hotter song. Today’s Shuffle kind of epitomizes these statements. • Jenny from the block wants to be called Lola now. Cool. Too bad the name change and The Neptunes couldn’t save her from coming back with more average music. Oh well, she’s still hot.

• This is music for the ADHD generation. Explosive bass, hyperactive synths, and an utter lack of direction. Maybe it’s because we forgot to take our Ritalin today, but it sounds awesome.

• Scott Mescudi recorded this back in 2007. Two years later he has a Complex cover and a successful debut album under his belt. We’re not that mad at this song, but wow, talk about an improvement.

Verdict: Pras said it best in his Damaja dis: “Without Premier, you couldn't sell it.” When Pras is dissing you, you know you got a problem.

O.G. PRODUCER: NO I.D.

BEFORE: “Resurrection”

AFTER: “The Light” (prod. by Jay Dee)

Verdict: We have much love for Dilla (R.I.P.) and the track has its merits, but Com's post-No-I.D. sound is altogether soft like Twinkie filling. With a sleeveless turtleneck on top.

RAPPER: RAEKWON
O.G. PRODUCER: RZA

BEFORE: “Criminology” (feat. Ghostface Killah)

AFTER: “Live From New York” (prod. by Infinite Arkatechz)

Verdict: The sad thing is, “Live From New York” is leagues better than most rap out today. But it's severely lacking when compared with any track off Cuban Linx.

RAPPER: SNOOP DOGG
O.G. PRODUCER: DR. DRE

BEFORE: “Gin and Juice”

AFTER: “Snoop's Upside Ya Head” (prod. by DJ Pooh)

Verdict: His longevity has proven that Snoop can rhyme (or sing) well over virtually anything, but his entire Dre-free sophomore album was a major letdown. Probably his worst album to date.

RAPPER: T.I.
O.G. PRODUCER: DJ TOOMP

BEFORE: “U Don't Know Me”

AFTER: “You Know What It Is” (Produced by Wyclef & Jerry Wonder)

Verdict: T.I. vs. T.I.P. is the only T.I. album without a DJ Toomp joint. It's no coincidence that it's also the worst T.I. album. The lesson? As always, never fuck with Wyclef. Thankfully, Toomp has a joint on Paper Trail.

O.G. PRODUCER: THE NEPTUNES

BEFORE: “Grindin'”

AFTER: “My Life's the Shit” (Produced by Illfonics)

Verdict: We fucks with a couple tracks on the new LP, but overall we can't get past the ABC production. Yo P'your boys need help.

An upcoming compilation called Johnny Cash Remixed will feature production by Snoop Dogg’s supergroup QDT (including Teddy Riley and DJ Quik), along with Pete Rock and rockers like Alabama 3, the British band behind The Sopranos theme. Snoop has already paid tribute to Cash on his current single “My Medicine,” so it’s only right that he will be covering his biggest hit, “Walk The Line,” for the compilation, which is due out on October 14. You might not be familiar with Compton rapper Problem yet, but you’ve probably heard his words. This newcomer has been ghostwriting lyrics for a minute, including work for Snoop Dogg like “Neva Hav 2 Worry” from his latest album Ego Trippin’. But after his single “I’m Toe Up” (original dirty version: “I’m Fucked Up”) started banging on West Coast radio and in the Cali clubs, he recently signed a solo deal with Universal Republic.

To celebrate the signing, some of his big name homies hopped on the remix to his hit single'DJ Quik, Kurupt, Terrace Martin, Snoop Dogg and DJ Felli Fel all pop up on the track. Check out Problem’s myspace and listen to remix after the jump.
