Wake N’ Watch: Judd Apatow’s “Funny People” (Red Band Trailer)

For some reason it seems like Judd Apatow has made 25 movies in the last 4 years, but in reality, he’s only actually directed two: The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005) and Knocked Up (2007). These two critical and commercial smashes resulted in Apatow becoming one of the most coveted producers in Hollywood, helping bring Superbad, Pineapple Express and Step Brothers to the screen. Not since Harold Ramis has one man touched so many comedy classics.

So what’s up with J.A. Rule’s long-awaited third film as a director? Funny People opens July 31, and a too-hot-for-TV red band trailer just dropped. The flick stars Adam Sandler as a comedian/movie star, and also features future wifey Aubrey Plaza and our current cover subject Jonah Hill. And for the record, Complex would like to say you’re welcome to Mr. Apatow for obviously inspiring Funny People’s pairing of Seth Rogen and RZA. Our next suggestion: a re-remake of Miami Vice starring Chris Mintz-Plasse and Rick Ross. Fuck Michael Mann, you’re the man!

Mel Marcelo Illustrates The Stars

You're mistaken if you think good illustrations are the result of just stenciling photos and tooling around with advanced computer programs. People who do it well have the ill skill-set, and while we can always Google image our favorite celebs, artist/illustrators like Mel Marcelo are making eye-balling famous people that ch more interesting.

Marcelo, a California-based illustrator, has had his art published in magazines like Newsweek, as well as several ad campaigns for brands like Oakley, but his recent work, like a shutter-shaded Barack Obama, and re-depictions of Seth Rogen, and Elizabeth Banks really impressed us. Zack and Miri Make A…Romantic Comedy?

Elizabeth Banks always dreamed she’d one day get to nail a stud like Seth Rogen on camera.

When Ayo! Scott heard that Clerks director Kevin Smith’s new film was titled Zack and Miri Make a Porno, he exclaimed, “Finally! It’s about time that New Jersey devil made a movie with some substance (that substance being loads and loads of spunk splattered on teenage runaways like Pollack paintings)!” Sadly, Smith made a real romantic comedy with only specks of masturbation fodder. But on the other hand, it’s nutrageously hilarious…

Broke and in need of rent money, unaccomplished friends and roommates Zack (Seth Rogen) and Miri (Elizabeth Banks) decide to make a porno. Zack’s co-worker at a Starbucks-esque coffee shop, unhappy husband Delaney (Craig Robinson, showing almost no signs of meth use), agrees to bankroll the film and it’s on like Donkey Kong (dong). The trio assemble a cast that includes real-life porn stars Katie Morgan and Traci Lords, as well as Jason Mewes (Jay of Jay and Silent Bob'Silent Bob makes no cameos, as we all know fuck flicks require full-throated bobs). Of course, while shooting during off-hours at the coffee shop, Zack and Miri discover they have feelings for each other (not the kind that are dulled by prophylactics, mind you). Will emotions ruin a perfectly good porno?

Though Ayo! could always use more hardcore sex, Zack and Miri strikes a nice balance between genitals and heart, which is great, because without heart, what they hell is gonna pump all that blood into a meaty cock? Throw a hand down your pants and check out the trailer to see if it arouses your curiosity.

Five Horribly Offensive Comedy Ideas

Hey, laughter is the best medicine, right?

When it comes to comedy, Seth Rogen is as serious as cancer. Actually, the star of Knocked Up and Pineapple Express seems to think cancer is pretty fucking hilarious, which is why he’s producing and acting in Mandate Pictures’ I’m With Cancer, a comedy about a 25-year-old dude who finds out he has the disease.

The flick is based on producer and writer Will Reiser’s account of his struggle to beat cancer'and it’s sure to make laughter metastasize! Since it appears that absolutely nothing is off limits anymore, Complex thought up five more horribly offensive comedy ideas that are sure to get big laughs in Hollywood…

Distasteful theme: Genocide
Movie title: How They Hanging
Pitch:
A dictator from the inbred upper class (Danny DeVito) launches a campaign of ethnic cleansing only to realize that he’s exterminating the only people who can operate the complex machinery needed to produce the country’s chief export'bumper nuts. Can he sweet talk the few remaining survivors and convince them to keep the factories chock full o’ nuts?
Tagline: This mass murderer is killing ‘em…with kindness!

Distasteful theme: Rape/Abortion
Movie title: Who’s Your Daddy?
Pitch:
When a businesswoman (Tina Fey) is impregnated by a rapist, repealed abortion laws force her to keep the child. Can the precocious fetus (Billy Bob Thornton voiceover) that reminds her of being violated convince her that he’s a little bundle of joy before she puts fire to a hanger?
Tagline: Morning sickness isn’t the only thing making her vomit!

Distasteful theme: School Violence
Movie title: One Last Shot
Pitch:
Two sexually ambiguous high school outcasts (Frankie Muniz and Zac Efron) facing expulsion if they miss another day of class are desperate to make it to a midday Jonas Brothers mall appearance. Can they pull off a bloody cafeteria shooting, frame the chess team, and get classes canceled in time to catch the first harmonious note?
Tagline: School’s out…for memorial services!

When a Mexican family is left homeless by a landslide, the impossibly upbeat father (Al Pacino in face paint) vows to build them a mansion out of the same mud that ruined their lives!

A racist, homophobic minor league catcher (Marky Mark Wahlberg) with a swing developed by years of gay bashing is finally promised a big league gig'if only he can develop the club’s flamboyant new Cuban ace (Horatio Sanz)! Between pitching/catching jokes and pats on the ass, it’s gonna be hard to not assault his meal ticket!

Seth Rogen & Kevin Smith Cover Our October Issue

Last week, Complex had the internets going (and busting) nuts over our October cover story with Danity Kane’s hottest sex symbol Aubrey O’Day. But that was just the beginning of what we’re calling “The Classy Issue.” Let us introduce you to the other side: Seth Rogen and Kevin Smith.

The star and director of Zack and Miri Make A Porno gave us a hilarious and explicit interview, where they discuss the ins and outs of consuming pornography (read it here). Jay Baruchel And Seth Rogen Vs. The Apocalypse

It’s easy to imagine what brolic action stars like Will Smith would do if they survived the end of the world, but what about some regular schlub like you? In their upcoming movie Jay and Seth Vs. The Apocalypse, former Knocked Up co-stars Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel reunite to prove that instant death is not the only option. Holing yourselves up in your house until you go crazy is also a viable route.

The idea was originally made into a short last year, but now Mandate Pictures has hired Rogen and Evan Goldberg (who wrote Superbad together) to turn it into a full feature-length movie. We’re anticipating the best horror/comedy since Shaun Of The Dead. The film isn’t expected to hit theaters until 2009, so watch a trailer of the original short below.

Zack And Miri Make A Porno Casting Call

Kevin Smith really needs to release a good movie. He’s made some classic bangers, but 2006’s Clerks II didn’t do enough to wash Jersey Girl’s Bennifer residue out of the public’s mouth. It looks like his upcoming October release, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, might do the trick.

Plot details are scarce'two friends try to raise money by making an amatuer adult film'but the casting alone makes it seem like a winner. In addition to leads Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks (who previously co-starred in The 40-Year-Old Virgin), the flick features The Office’s Craig Robinson and '80s porn icon Traci Lords.
