Hole Bassist Is Back With ‘Out Of Our Minds’ Exhibit

Everyone knows that Courtney Love is a human shit-show, but whatever happened to the other ladies of Hole? Well, it’s been three years since the once-bassist for the group Melissa Auf Der Maur performed, but now she’s announced her return to music with a sophomore album due in Spring 2009. The album is just one part of a three-tier project that also includes a short film and a impressive graphic novel called Out Of Our Minds.

The OOOM exhibit, which debuted last night at a gallery in New York’s East Village, evolved from Melissa combining her new songs with photography. The film’s dark visuals almost seem inspired by the Blair Witch movies, but with more of an emphasis on cryptic imagery. 5 Things That Rock Harder Than ‘The Rocker’

Ayo! Scott only knows one way to rock out: with his cock out. His exposed member (ladies, all together now: AYO!) got harder than Rick Allen’s severed arm when he saw that Rainn Wilson (Dwight Schrute from The Office) was playing a wild drummer from an ’80s hair band in The Rocker. Then Ayo! saw the movie and put his penis back in his pants…

In the film, Wilson plays Robert “Fish” Fishman, whose Vesuvius band mates sell him out to become millionaire rock stars. He only gets back in the game years later when recruited to play skins for his nephew’s high school garage band, A.D.D. Although the band name sounds like some really cool, fucked up kids who would snort Ritalin and gang slay the female bassist (Emma Stone), the music is actually sweet-ass emo pop. The film even clowns Wilson for living the rock dream of booze and broads when they eventually succeed (for the record, no man is ever too old to “overindulge” in both). Another thing that doesn’t rock is the strain Josh Gad puts on Jonah Hill’s bozack with his performance as Fish’s awkward, heavyset nephew.

Some would say The Rocker is in the vein of This Is Spinal Tap and School of Rock, but Ayo! says it’s in the vein of Ayo!’s hairy nuts. Skip it and check out these five things Ayo! assures you actually do rock hard…

Gutter Twins Destroy All With Idle Hands

What do you do when you’re an aging, over-40 alt-rocker, but you still want to make a music video that the children will respond to? Hire a bunch of kids to blow shit up and film it!

In their new video for “Idle Hands,” the Gutter Twins follow this formula for success. If you don’t know the GTs, it’s a group consisting of Greg Dulli (lead singer of seminal late '80s indie rock group Afghan Whigs) and Mark Lanegan (lead singer of early '90s Seattle grunge staple Screaming Trees) who released their debut Saturnalia in March on Sub Pop. Ratatat Hunts A Predator In “Mirando”

Brooklyn’s indie-electro duo has crazy visions. Like any good dance music artist with a taste for trippy imagery, Ratatat thinks outside the box for the “Mirando” video, the latest from their highly-anticipated third album LP3. They match the track up with scenes cut from Arnold Schwarzenegger’s classic 1987 action flick Predator. We hope this means we’ll be seeing more jungle scenes and infrared cameras from Ratatat in the future. Watch the full video below.

Beck & Danger Mouse Team Up On “Chemtrails”

From MF Doom to Cee-Lo, Danger Mouse has worked with some of the best. But if there’s one artist we would have paired him to do an album with, it’s the always unpredictable Beck.

The singer/songwriter has spent his 14 year career weaving in and out of different genres, and Danger Mouse has been experimenting with a similiar brew of rock, hip-hop, and electronica since coming on the scene in 2003. The two have been hard at work on Beck’s 8th studio album, Modern Guilt, which is due in stores this fall. After the jump, listen to “Chemtrails,” the first taste that leaked yesterday.

The Ting Tings Get That iPod Money

Looks like the next “it” band to blow up from an Apple advertisement could be The Ting Tings. Although the British pair have never gotten a major commercial look, lead singer Katie White and instrumentalist Jules De Martino could very well become the new Feist, who blew the fuck up last year when “1,2,3,4″ was featured in a Nano commercial.

In addition to the Apple co-sign, the Ting Tings’ new single “Shut Up and Let Me Go” will appear on their debut album, We Started Nothing (due out May 19). After the jump, watch the commercial and a video of the duo performing the song live in LA.

The Knux Deconstruct Hipster Hip-Hop

These days, it seems like every young rapper who doesn’t wear rhinestones like Jim Jones gets branded as “hipster hip-hop.” But if you ask up-and-coming duo The Knux, the “hipster” label just shows that they’re doing something different from the mainstream. In a recent interview with MTV, the New Orleans-bred siblings Rah Almillio (left) and Krispy Kream (right) make an interesting analogy: mainstream hip-hop today is like cheesy hair-metal in the ’80s, and all the so-called “hipster rap” is like punk rock because it takes it back to the raw essence. After lead singer Alexis Taylor showed his inner fanboy in the video for “Read For the Floor,” HC’s latest video for “One Pure Thought” pits the charismatic Brits in a colorful halftone pattern made popular by artist Roy Lichtenstein. The Knux Secretly Hit The Stage In NYC

Last night, New Orleans transplants The Knux went from the airport straight to the stage at 205 Club in NYC’s Lower East Side. Charged off the hype from their jumpoff single, “Cappucino” the (biological) brothers Krispy and Al (left to right) rocked an intimate performance of exclusive tracks from their Interscope debut Remind Me In 3 Days, due this summer.

Their on-stage chemistry poured through every song, especially when Krispy ad-libbed off-stage in the audience while his little brother’s flow resurrected the era of Tribe and Pharcyde’s golden heyday. After the jump, see a few flicks from the show.

Radiohead Gets “Nude” For Remix Contest

The digital divide between musicians and fans seems to get smaller every time Radiohead does anything. First they let you determine the worth for In Rainbows, now they are giving away the tools (what they call “stems”) to remix the song “Nude” from their latest release In Rainbows.

No cease and desist orders or charges of copywrite infringement here'all the instruments that the band themselves have cleared are there for you to sample in the remix contest. Why Did iTunes Leak The New Raconteurs Album?

Who needs Zshare when iTunes seems to now be leaking albums early? First it was The Shins, and now the new Raconteurs album Consolers of the Lonely seems to have enjoyed an early release last week thanks to Apple’s online music store. Could these supposed “accidents” be a sign of the walls closing in on the MP3 hub? It’s possible. But as long as Jack White can get the album out sooner than Gnarls Barkley did, he should survive.
