The best part of a recession is you can “project” just about anything, an idea that comes in handy when you’re trying to pitch your part of the world to tourists and magazine editors. At a recent press conference to promote Australian tourism, futurologist (yeah we know) Ian Yeoman stated, “Robotics will become important, because you’re going to have labor shortages in the future…Even robot “prostitutes” that would not pass on diseases such as HIV could make an appearance.”
Sounds good to us. Hey Ian: below is our list of top ten robot women we’d like to have sex with. If you can work on getting these made real, we’ll book our tickets. Just let us know when the ladies are ready and we’ll be there with a 10-page cover story, thanks…

UNIQLO, the shop best known for its quality basics, is changing the back to school shopping game by introducing the first-ever robot to buzz around a retail store. The plastic yellow shopping-assistant named Wakamaru came to life through design by Toshiyuki Kita and engineering by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI). It’s expected to make its first appearance in the SoHo store sometime next week.
Besides being able to make eye contact, meet and greet customers and engage in brief conversations, Wakamura will also lead the staff in inspirational morning exercises. No word yet if Waka is capable of snappin' on the colored-denim stans that will populate the store, but our fingers are crossed. Check out a video of little homie getting his swerve on in Washington earlier this year…

Dancing coke can, you’re on notice. Our new favorite musical robot is Tengu, a little Japanese-made critter that plugs into your USB and lip syncs with his bright LED face. To wake him up from his slumber, you simply blow on his face. Then, you can blow on his microphone to change his look. This square guy has 14 different facial expressions, which move in time with music or the sound of typing on your keyboard. After the jump, watch the Tengu in action.
