Wifey Or Trifey: Rihanna

rihanna_wot_opener.jpg
Last night at the American Music Awards, international pop star and former Complex cover girl Rihanna proved why she’s the one of the baddest chicks in the game, bagging statues for both Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist and Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist. The world just can’t get enough of Ri-Ri, and neither can we.

The long-legged Bajan has been on our radar since she let the two’s out to play in her “S.O.S.” video. Since then, she’s blown up like we thought she would and in the process has found herself in the middle of romantic rumors involving everyone from her former boss Jay-Z to (s)crappy actor Shia LeBeouf. So it’s only right that we ask: Is the good girl gone bad a wifey or trifey? Chris Brown, relax and take notes, as we examine the evidence…

Celebrities Who Give Out Their Cellphone Numbers

ryanlead.jpg
Ryan’s # can be found on his MySpace, as well as various men’s bathroom walls across the Village.

Desperate times call for desperate measures: The music industry is still floundering, so artists gotta do what they can to make a buck. Enter SayNow, a service that allows fans to dial up their favorite celebrities. Each of SayNow’s nearly 300 artists—from big shots like 50 Cent to small fries like Young Twinn—have offered their cellphone numbers for Stans to call and leave messages. Apparently, the stars themselves will sometimes call back to leave messages of their own.

This concept was somewhat interesting when Mike Jones (remember him?) originated it, but now that pretty much anybody is offering their digits, the novelty is officially dead. Plus, you’ll have better luck finding a virgin in Hef’s mansion than someone over 13 who believes these artists are actually listening to these calls. But eff it, what if we really could just ring up our favorite celebs? See below to hear a sampling of phone greetings from celebs, and the messages we’d leave them…

Meet Universal’s Newest Songstress Shontelle

shontelle1.jpg
Until Rihanna washed up on our shores, the success of singers from Barbados has been spotty. Where are you Rupee? But now, Rebel-One Management (the same folks who back Rihanna) are are hoping to duplicate their success with a new Bajan good girl by the name of Shontelle.

After writing the crossover hit “Roll” for soca singer Alison Hinds, 23-year-old Shontelle Layne signed a solo deal with SRC/Universal. Her forthcoming album, Shontelligence is expected to hit shelves this year, led by her cutesy ladies-anthem”T-Shirt.” This week, one of her inspirational tracks “Battle Cry” appeared on Yes We Can: Voices Of A Grassroots Movement, a compilation album for the Democratic National Convention. But with politics pushed to the side, we got Shontelle’s feedback on her modeling debut at fashion week, being obsessed with her labelmate Akon, and repping her country right. Get familiar by reading our exclusive interview below…

Which BET Awards Woman Looked The Best?

alicia-lead.jpg
Wayne and Kanye definitely dominated last night’s BET Awards, but we really had a hard time paying attention to all that rap shit. With some of the finest women in the entertainment industry strutting their carefully manicured stuff, how could we focus on anything else?

Consistent hotties like Alicia Keys, Cassie, Ciara and Rihanna all had typically strong showings, but a new batch of starlets like Lauren London, and Angel Love also made their bids for the belt. After the jump, see pictures from the event and vote on who was the evening’s #1 stunner.
