Rides Test Drive: 2010 Cadillac CTS-V

2010 Cadillac CTS-V
Just because General Motors went bankrupt and is now partially owned by us, the American people, that doesn’t mean, they’ve given up all hope of making cool cars. Yeah, we know, it’s kinda hard to say without cracking up, but we’re serious. It seems right as they faced the worst year in their 101 year history, they started making cars people actually cared about. Like the now gone Pontiac G8. And the all-new Cadillac CTS-V.

Test on the famed Nürburgring in Germany, the CTS-V was built to be the best production performance sedan on the market, and we’ll be damned if it isn’t at least in the top 3. To really test it out, we got a chance to take the CTS-V around the track at the Monticello Race Way in Monticello, New York. Read our full review and watch track day video below…

Rides Test Drive: Audi Q5

q5
We’ve test-driven quite a few Audis over the last few years, but—word to Goldilocks—something about the Audi Q5 feels just right. Or is it just a sign of age that we’re fawning over a compact CUV? Either way, the car that Audi calls “segment-redefining” is out to take over the Lexus RX/BMW X3/Mercedes-Benz GLK market, and judging from Audi’s recession-defying 2008 sales numbers, we wouldn’t bet against it. Read on for our review of the Audi Q5

Rides Test Drive: 2009 Mazda6

When your company’s tag line is “Zoom-Zoom” all your cars better damn well go zoom-zoom. And, for the most part, Mazda stands by it’s creedo, producing a lineup that has two of the most fun cars on the market to drive: the hoonage-inducing MazdaSpeed3 and the Chris Paul nimble MX-5 (formerly the Miata). But by injecting the “soul of a sports car” into more mainstream models like their Toyota Camry and Honda Accord fighter, the Mazda6 is a bit trickier. Read on for our full review…

Rides Great Moments In The History Of The Segway

greatsegwaymoments
The New York International Auto Show starts this Friday (April 10th), and GM and Segway are expected to unveil a collaborative project that is essentially a two-person sit-down version of the Segway, everyone’s favorite love-to-hate invention of the early 2000s. This new project, named P.U.M.A. (Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility), is poised to take what’s left of the 45 year-old and paid software development set by storm.

Let us not forget the storied history of the Segway, though! These things are awesome, from Cops running down gunmen to Arrested Development’s Gob showing how an executive can make the lamest device in the world classy. Hit the jump for a brief history the Segway…

Rides The World’s Best High Speed Rail Lines

motowntrainlineopener
There was a whole bunch of noise made about the money put aside by the Obama administration for high speed rail lines. Conservatives complained that there was no need to put money into new rail lines when people need jobs and banks need saving. They must have forgotten that it’s the American people who will build these new rail lines. They must have also forgot that high speed rails will offer an economically and earth friendly secondary mode of transportation. Thankfully, the people of Detroit got the message and are already trying to move forward with a high speed railway.

Worldwide Hydrogen Super Highways has designed an elevated railway that will utilize hyrdogen powered traincars that can reach up to 200 mph. Finally! We’ll have a train system that can compete with the systems found around the world. Just how good are those systems you say? We picked five of our favorites for you below…

Rides Great Moments In Minivan History

minivans_lead.jpg
In November of 1983, Chrysler released what would become one of the most iconic vehicles in the world: the Dodge Caravan. Though some argue that they didn’t invent the minivan, there’s no doubt that the Caravan was the genesis of the market that blew up over the next 25 years. Chances are, any minivan you’ve driven or been driven in owes a thing or three to Dodge. Volkswagen is even releasing their first minivan for the American market based off the Dodge Caravan platform.

It’s no surprise then that minivans have seeped into the American pop-culture more than once. To commemorate this landmark, we put together our five of our favorite moments in minivan history…

Rides Test Drive: 2009 Ford Flex

fordflex_480.jpg
As the masses turned away from SUVs faster than Patriot fans have abandoned their squad , Ford went back to the drawing board to create a crossover that would appeal to those who need the space of an Expedition but whose wallets are more befitting of a Focus. What came out was the Flex. We took Ford’s new crossover around for a weekend to see if it’s as good as the blue oval hopes it is. Check out our breakdown of the truck below…

Rides Classic Cars That Deserve A Second Chance

porsche914_480.jpg
It was reported today that Porsche is considering reviving their mid-engined 914 sports car if the response to Volkswagen’s two-door Lotus Elise killer concept is better than that of the ill-fated Phaeton.

Ain’t nothing like a second chance, just ask Pac Man Jones. We always like to see old and forgotten models that should have never been discontinued in the first place (the 914 was Motor Trend’s 1970 Car of the Year) make a comeback, Robert Downey Jr-style. While there are tons of whips we’d like to see on the streets again, there are some that have actually left a void in the market place. We chose five of our all-time favorite discontinued cars that deserve another shot….

Rides Ridin’ Dirty: The Hottest Cop Cars In Existence

volvocopcar_opener.jpg

After announcing it about a year ago, Volvo unveiled its ultimate factory built police car earlier today at the National Association of Police Fleet Manager's Conference in Cheltenham, England. Unlike other police cars that are outfitted once they get to the station, Volvo plans to prepare the car (pictured above) themselves and then deliver it within a few months after the order date.

The specialized V70 will come equipped with VASCAR speed detection system, a police surveillance video camera and a two dog cage as well as larger brakes and reinforced alloy wheels. We can see why police forces in the UK are excited about this come-up, but even with Volvo delivering ready to go cop cars, there are cooler ones already in use.

Sorry to break it to you, but summer’s over. It’s time to garage the drop top and hop into something that can handle everything fall and winter can throw at it. Something with four wheel drive, a little lift and some off-road capabilities.

We know that because of the current gas crisis, everyone’s pushing crossovers instead SUVs, but if you look closely you’ll see that there are a number of compact SUVs that are worth some consideration. To help you out, before we become fully immersed in the cold weather months and start planning ski trips to Vermont, we picked 5 of our favorite compact SUV’s…
