Find out about South Carolina's fresh new speaker spot and the couple who brought big city style down south.

When former Stuff magazine fashion editor Gustavo Serrano and his stylist wife Andrea relocated from Brooklyn to Charleston, South Carolina, they set out to provide Chucktown with big-city-style shopping options. So after the success of their clothing shop B’ZAR, the duo opened sneaker spot Suite Sole in September.

The store, whose unique decor is inspired by the couple’s stays at hotels around the world, is the exclusive retailer for Alife, Clae, Nike Energy, The Hundreds and Schmoove in South Carolina. Says Gustavo: “We made sure to bring the city of Charleston all of the brands they like, the brands they should know about, and design a store that is what people are not used to seeing down south.” This month, look for Suite Sole to debut Nike’s new ACG Wildwood and Air Structure Triax. See more pics of the store and a link to its site below…

Need a vintage starter jacket? This NYC streetwear store is the bridge between fashion's old and new school for any good ’80s baby.

It’s kinda crazy watching kids who were born in 1991 dressing like it’s 1988. Luckily, there’s one streetwear outpost that schools kids on the authentic styles from the era: Coat Of Arms. The Lower East Side shop, which opened almost a year ago, digs up real remnants from the past, like rare Ralph Lauren gear and Starter jackets.

Owner Naghman Chaudry initially wanted to open a boutique that would house his burgeoning clothing line Subscript. But as the plans came to fruition with partner Brian Procell, they became the bridge between fashion’s old and new school, carrying brands like Rockers NYC, Prada, WESC, Creative Recreation, and vintage BAPE. “It’s like being an urban archeologist'you’re literally digging up everything that was ill in the hood back in the day,” says Procell. See photos from the store’s interior after the jump.

Rogan Gregory gets cooler with every move he makes. The eco-friendly designer that built the Rogan fashion house also launched organic clothing lines Loomstate and Edun, a collaboration with Bono and wife, Ali Hewson. Recently, he made another major move by opening his second store in New York’s Lower East Side. The new location, which carries all the previously mentioned chic brands, is located in an actual NY landmark'the Bouwerie Lane Theatre'which was constructed in 1874. Grab a quick look at the shop’s interior after the jump.
Alife’s modest approach to cool streetwear and sneakers has brought them pretty far since operating out of NYC’s Lower East Side store front for over a decade. Try three more stores: Vancouver in 2005, Los Angeles in 2007, and now the brand new Tokyo flagship, all with their own unique design concepts. The latest Tokyo store follows the aesthetic with a quote that greets customers, “Lead, follow or get the hell out of the way.” Once inside, a giant tank with a collection of their signature RTFT and ARC shoes are on display. See more photos of the Japan’s newest import after the jump.

The Swedish workwear brand ushers in their new era of utilitarian fashion with the opening of a new store.

After three years of operating out of the small SoHo retail space on Lafayette St., the Swedish fashion import Dunderdon relocated to a bigger location on 25 Howard St. this past March. The brighter, spacious flaghship is living proof that Dunderdon paid its dues coming up from the dark, industrial theme of their old home. This year’s line of jackets, pants, shirts, and hoodies meets the needs of both form an function. Design director Carlos Salazar creates durable jackets, complete with plenty of pockets (including a few hidden ones), and rich colored T-shirts with a lyric from The Smiths emblazoned on the front'”Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now.” Take a look at a few more Dunderdon products in the gallery after the jump.
London’s exclusive fashion staple, YMC (short for You Must Create) just got more accessible. Since it’s based overseas, and only available in select boutiques stateside, the brand birthed by Fraser Moss and Jimmy Collins in 1995 is embracing the world of online shopping with their new Flash enabled website. Now anyone from the SoHo stalwarts to skate punks can put together complete outfits before they buy YMC’s goods. Catch a glimpse of their new spring line and bags after the jump.

Be smart about purchasing your next pair of jeans with this week's quick guide.

Owning a pair of jeans means much more than having the receipt to prove it. Every detail from the fit in the waist to the cuff must meet your needs'you’re the one that has to wear it. So make it yours with these simple denim-related tips. After the jump, get instructions on caring for your denim, what to look for when you’re shopping for denim, and the best way to style your denim.

INSIDE-OUT
Unless you want more fading, always turn your jeans inside-out when washing them.

HANG DRY
Hang drying jeans keeps their shape and allows them to take a natural aging process.

USE YOUR HAND
If you have a pair of jeans that drops perfectly on your sneakers, put your hand inside the leg and stretch out your fingers to check the width. Now you can quickly measure the width of new jeans when shopping.

WALLET WATCH
Slim down your bulky wallet so you don’t wear down a square in your back pocket. Invest in a money clip or a paper-thin card wallet.

HEM IT UP
Launder your jeans before taking them up. Also, have the original hem reattatched.

Take a look at edgy styles from a brand that reps it's city right.

Photo: Freshnessmag

Besides being one dimensional, fashion statements are just too cliché. As those “rebellious” motorcycle jackets peel off into the sunset, New York’s it-designer Dao-Yi Chow is makng noise with Public School’s conversation pieces that speak volumes.

The former creative director of Sean John, and owner of Miami’s retail store, Arrive, pushes the limits of fashion with his line of premium leather jackets (varsity, trench coats), hoodies, and T-shirts, a throwback to New York’s grittier heyday without a web of zippers. They are like what Ethan Hunt would would wear'impossible designs made possible. Built-in ski-masks on hoodies, detatchable gloves, classic kangaroo pockets, all the way down to simple thumb slits (you know the way you’d hook your fingers on your belt tabs), Chow bridges the gap between form and function.

Public School’s utilitarian approach to streetwear trumps the maturity of button-ups. The latest trend the burgeoning brand is humping these days: suspenders. Those corny straps grandad uses to keep his oversized waist band from sagging are this year’s cardigan, also patterened by Nudie Jeans, John Varvatos, and Corpus. This fall/winter, when it’s time to go back-to-school shopping (college students, at least), like KRS-One said, “You must learn.” See more styles from Public School after the jump…

Over in SoHo, NYC you might notice a small cotton field. In case you’re questioning what era we’re currently in, yes it’s 2008, and no this is not some weird demonstration by those Truth renegades to get you to stop smoking. The plush spectacle is actually a part of a new marketing campaign by Supima (the folks behind US Pima), educating consumers on the source of one of the world’s most integral textiles.

The display sitting comfortably on Houston St. between Lafayette and Crosby St. is only temporary in conjunction with US Pima’s pop-up shop which opened yesterday selling brands from Gilded Age, AG Adriano Goldschmied, and Three Dots. Grab a piece of unprocessed cotton through April 13 or before a ridiculous protest on the deep connection between slavery and the cotton industry.

Call it a smart business move or an evasive action. Just weeks after HBO's Entourage hopped on the jock of sneakerheads with an episode dedicated to an Undftd x Nike Air Force 1 one-off, the West Coast sneaker outpost drew the heat away from their LA location with a party at the new store in Vegas. Though the store hasn't even opened yet, that faint smell of asbestos was never a factor while we danced to grooves from DJ/producer 9th Wonder, toasted to many more scorching days of waiting in line for limited edition sneakers and, um, to strippers, of course. It's Vegas baby!

There was no posting up on the wall at this party.

Oops, someone should have reminded DJ 9th Wonder.

Here at Complex the lines between work and play often become blurry. Even during our 4th of July vacation last week in LA, it was almost impossible to pull us away from our laptops and Blackberries so that we could catch a quick glimpse of hot, exotic World Cup groupies and the Zinedine Zidane head butt heard 'round the world. Instead, our attention was on the sweet eye-candy we found outside of our native NYC in some of the West Coast's finest boutique shops like Proper, Seams, Supreme, Conveyor at Fred Segal, and Turntable Lab. Maybe next time we can fit into our schedule more than one type of “beech,” if you know what we mean.

Fred Segal has two locations, both across the street from each other. But only one houses Conveyor, their dope boutique streetwear line. They also carry Orchard Street, MHI (Maharishi), BBC and Ice Cream.

For us sneakerheads who get wood for Proper’s wide selection of Nike, adidas, and Vans we must say the store’s wood-grain motif is also a nice touch. Pause.

Seams is a cool store in Long Beach next door to Proper. Most of the clientele are skaters so most of the sneaker choices are Nike SB’s core skate shoes like the P-Rod, and Team Edition. Other hot items in the store: Nike SB apparel, Nike White Label, T-shirts from The Hundreds, Shalom x Diamond, and Lrg.

The tiny New York flagship has more room to breathe out in LA. The DJ/producer/sound technician headquarters carries the imports as well as the latest 12″ releases (yes, vinyl still exists), DJ equipment, accessories, T-shirts, hoodies, CD’s, and DVD’s.

Have a seat and taste some of their delicious vinyl.

Seeing a live DJ in a store once wowed us. But we’ve finally seen it all, Supreme LA’s in-door skate bowl – amazing.
