Music Portishead Gets Animated In “The Rip” Video

theripscreengrab.jpgAfter the grainy, low-fi performance video for their comeback single “Machine Gun,” we had been hoping that Portishead would choose a more striking visual for the follow up. So on the second video from their latest album Third, the Bristol-based trio turned to indie-director Nick Uff to bring “The Rip” to life. The hazy, hypnotic animation was all hand-drawn and recorded on 16mm film, lending a raw feel to the scenes that are half dream and half nightmare. Watch things get warped out after the jump.

Music Portishead Fires Off “Machine Gun”

portisheadmachine.jpgYes, it seems everyone’s favorite moody trip-hop group is officially back.

After a nearly decade-long hiatus, Portishead is currently prepping their third studio album, Third, for release on April 28. The trio from Bristol just leaked the album’s first music video for “Machine Gun,” and its grainy, security camera-esque visuals definitely match the song’s cold, industrial feel. See for yourself after the jump.
