With all due respect to Thirstin Howl III, it’s shocking that no rapper has recorded a truly definitive ode to Ralph Lauren’s enduring greatness. Newcomer Dukwon—originally from small town Southern Pines, North Carolina and now repping Jacksonville, Florida—has a pretty good shot at the title with his new joint “Polo” (Ho!), featuring one of Complex’s favorite MCs, Killer Mike. This one’s got all the ingredients of a late-summer banger: a pool party, chicks with croquet mallets and an overdose of some clean-as-hell ’Lo. Sadly, they didn’t get Ralph’s cannonball on tape.

It wasn’t too long ago that polo shirts were a yacht-cruising, golf-loving yuppie staple. Thank RVCA, the Cali-based, collabo-happy company (among other cool brands) for making them cool again. The label, which caters to action-sports athletes (and wannabes who like the look), does not limit itself to the typical skater prints and board shorts. Instead, it prides itself on “transcending the boundaries of traditional action-sports apparel.”
Today’s Buy It Now, for example, is the type of shirt that’s comfortable enough to skate in but smart enough to rock on your nightly club crawl. With details like the notched-up sides at the hem and those hypnotizing horizontal stripes—all at a great price— the polo is a no-brainer for the summer. Plaid has been the pattern of choice for (at least) the last two seasons, and although you may be getting tired of the look, it’s not going anywhere (yet). With that in mind, we’ve put together a definitive list of the 20 best plaid items of the moment, including everything from sunglasses to shirts with brands ranging from Supreme to Alexander Olch. Keep in mind that a little plaid goes a long way; we strongly caution against overdosing on the pattern…you know who you are. Read on to see our top picks and cop accordingly…
If you’re looking to hang out at the country club this summer, be aware that the mimosa-sipping retirees might look down on the bold, youthful graphic tees of today’s streetwear. While most of the sports associated with streetwear are skate and snow, Amongst Friends is open to more leisurely sports like golf and tennis, without forcing you to check your style at the door. Founder Mikol Stambough launched his spring/summer line to match the season’s soft colors on their signature New Eras and polo shirts. See a gallery of products from their ‘08 lookbook after the jump.
