If you’ve always wanted to stretch the deck shoe trend past the summer months, Pointer’s got you covered with its Taylor silo. Sure it doesn’t have the same D.N.A as a normal shoe you’d hit the high seas wearing, but this mid-top finds itself right in the middle of winter boot and top-sider. WHY WE CO-SIGN: Look, we love Air Yeezy’s and all those other brightly colored, bulky high-tops that are now so heavily lusted after. But, despite what you may think, you can’t go around looking like an urbanized spaceman all the damn time. Sometimes you have to tone it down and class it up. We’re not saying you gotta go full hard bottom (although, that’s not such a bad idea), but there are sneaker companies that have found a middle ground between the formal and casual. One of the best is the London, England based brand Pointer…

Whether it be a dinner with your girls family, or getting past the bouncer at a club you begrudgingly promised your friend you’d go to, Pointer footwear takes over where brands like Nike or Supra leave you hanging. Started in 2004, Gareth Skewis set out to create “well-designed casual shoes in response to a market then saturated with increasingly technical trainers and hyped-up limited edition sneakers.” Sounds like hypebeast salvation to us. Blending the comfort of sneakers with the more buttoned up look of dress shoes, Pointer truly gives you the best of both worlds. For Spring 2010, they have a whole slew of styles and colorways—a couple cool lace ups, and a modern take on the penny loafer—that is sure to appease even the most die sneakerhead.

Pointer Mathieson Charcoal

London-based footwear company Pointer just re-launched its website, and besides the site being better to navigate, the brand showcased all of its fall/winter 2009 collection. There’s a bunch of cleaned-up silos like the “Saha,” “Tanju” and “Crago” but our favorite is still the Mathieson. Out of the five new colorways the brand is releasing, expect this Charcoal make-up to standout. Check for them to hit US Retailers in a few weeks.

Pointer Soma II

If the purple Soma’s are too much for you, check for this more toned-down cool gray colorway. The UK-based Pointer is steadily improving its distribution in the U.S, which means the indie brand is about to get a lot more burn with the cool-guy set. If you’re looking to keep up with Pointer’s new drops, check in with stores like KCDC, The Reed Space and Conveyor at Fred Segal.

As much as we hate the term recession-friendly, we're always looking for sneakers that look more expensive than they really are. Take these cleaned-up Soma 2's from Pointer for example. They look more high-fashion than a Chuck Taylor or Sk8-Hi, and at $88 won't hurt your pockets. It's tough out here, smarten up homie. Get ‘em here.

Breakout brand of the year? Yup, you heard it here first. It's going to be hard to ignore Pointer this fall, with quality sneaker-shoes dropping at prices that aren't too nuts. The London-bred company kicks off their reign at indie supremacy with these cleaned-up Taylors. Get to 'em before they go pop.

These Soma's pick up where the Mathieson model left off, and are a solid go-to when you're in your ” I don't shop where the rest buy,” moods.
